The Essentials (Quickstart) : nano3D Monitoring/ Recording/ Playing
In addition to the basic operating instructions for nanoFlash (see pg 5): for nano3D:
(Master unit = top unit = left eye, Slave unit = bottom unit = right eye)
(Master unit is 3D activated (through activation procedure) and enabled (Video->3D->Enable) (Slave
unit is not 3D enabled)
1. Ensure that Master and Slave units have identical firmware (System->About)
Connect the HDMI output from the slave (bottom) unit to the HDMI input of the master (top)
2.
unit with the included HDMI 9 inch cable.
3. Connect the 'right eye' camera to the SDI input of the slave unit
4. Connect the 'left eye' camera to the SDI input of the master unit
Gen-lock both cameras together and ensure that both cameras are outputting the same video
5.
format (can be checked by looking at the status line of each nanoFlash). When gen-locking,
use tri-level sync for 24p, bi-level sync for other video formats. If the Combine option
(described further down) is used, the nanoFlash will check for gen-lock, and continuously
display a "Stream Mismatch" error message if the cameras are not gen-locked. Ignore any
temporary "Stream Mismatch" messages – this is only a problem if displayed continuously.
6. Be certain that Image Stabilization is turned off on both cameras. Image stabilization can
negatively effect camera sync when panning or zooming the cameras
7. Connect power Y-cable to both units
8. Connect power source to power Y-cable (if not already connected)
Before connecting the 3D Remote Y-Cable, ensure that the Master unit's Video->3D->Enable
9.
setting is selected. The Remote cable can only be used if the Master unit is already in 3D
mode (by selecting the Enable setting). Do not use the 3D Remote with 2 separated
nanoFlashes which are in 2D mode.
Connect the remote Y-tally to both units, attaching the connector with a red ring around
10.
the base to the master unit, and the connector without a red ring to the slave unit.
Connect remote tally to remote Y-tally (if not already connected). Note that you must
11.
use the Remote tally in 3D mode for synchronized starting and stopping (record and
playback).
Setting up Master and Slave units for 3D Record/Play:
12.
Slave Unit has the following critical items which are set independently of the Master unit:
System->File= : The 1
◦
indicate right eye recording for Slave unit. The remainder of "File=" setting should
match Master unit's "File=" setting. (Note: do not use .MPG)
Video->Flip V : set as appropriate for Slave unit.
◦
Video->Flop H: set as appropriate for Slave unit.
◦
Video->3D->Enable: leave Slave unit's 3D option not enabled (un-checked).
◦
Video->3D->Play Ref: set to "Int" (internal) for Slave unit.
◦
All other 3D settings (settings in the Video->3D menu) on Slave unit can be safely ignored and
left as default values.
All other non-3D settings on Slave unit should match Master unit exactly.
