Operating Tips

1. Only insert/ remove cards which are not being recorded to. Removal and insertion of a
CF card during record is supported. If removing a card during record, make certain that the
CF card being removed is not being recorded to, at the time of removal. If inserting a card
during record, insert cards that have either been formatted (preferably on nanoFlash) or
that only contain nanoFlash video (no extraneous data or files). (ver1.6.226)
2. Be gentle with CF card insertion to CF card slots! Jamming CF cards into the CF slot or
applying excess pressure on either side of the CF card during insertion can cause bent pins
inside of the CompactFlash slot. Bent CF slot pins will result in unit malfunction, and is not
covered under warranty. Insert cards gently, applying modest pressure in the middle of the
(edge of the) card during insertion.
3. Only use recommended CompactFlash cards: Use only the approved Compact Flash
cards, otherwise your video footage may be corrupted.
4. CF Card Monitoring: Each card slot has a progress bar at the top of the LCD screen. The
total record time remaining in minutes is always displayed on status line (bottom right).
5. CF Card Erase/Formatting Procedure: To format or erase all cards inserted into the unit,
choose System->Format in the menu.
Troubleshooting Guide
1. No function of the nanoFlash: Check that the unit is powered on with the proper power
adapter, check battery.
2. No Video input ("No Src" in left bottom corner of screen) over SDI / HDMI
1. Plug the HD-SDI or HDMI camera directly into a monitor to confirm video.
2. Try a System->Restore Defaults on nanoFlash.
3. Check System->Src setting: HDMI or SDI as appropriate.
4. Try resetting the camera.
5. Check Camera Notes Addendum at the end of this manual for more tips.
6. Check if option Video->Remove 3:2 Pulldown is selected. If the camera is outputting video
without a pulldown (such as when the camera is not set to 24p, or it is outputting color
bars), nanoFlash will not accept the signal.
3. No Video Output over SDI / HDMI
1. Plug the HD-SDI or HDMI camera directly into a monitor to confirm video.
2. For live monitoring, try changing the Video->E to E setting.
3. If your video source is HDMI, make sure the source is not HDCP encrypted. The
nanoFlash can not accept encrypted video. For example, DVD players appear to always
encrypt the video out of the HDMI port.
4. Check Monitoring Notes Addendum for more tips.
4. nanoFlash won't record
1. Make sure approved CF cards are inserted with space available: check card indicators on
top of screen, check the record minutes remaining indicator in bottom right of screen.
2. Make sure a video source has been recognized: in the bottom left corner of the screen the
video format is displayed, or "No Src" (No Source) if no video input is detected.
3. Check Recording Notes Addendum for more tips.
5. CF card won't play from nanoFlash to monitor
1. Try changing the Video->Play Progressive as PSF setting.
