Fiber Optic Cable

The customer is responsible for routing and terminating external fiber optic cable to the ADC fiber termi -
nation shelf. Splicing of the fiber is done within the ADC shelf. Provide a minimum 50-foot coil of excess
fiber cable in the cabinet from the external source before making the termination connection. Fiber
jumpers are provided to connect the fiber shelf to the Total Access 3000 OC-3 MUX.

Dress and Lace Wiring

The customer is responsible to dress and lace all customer installed wiring to accepted workmanship
standards. Take extra care when handling fiber optic cables. Make use of all fiber optic protection and
management devices.

Protection Panels

Do not remove the identification tags from the splicing modules or
protection panels .
The following steps are generic recommendations. If local practices take
precedence over what is stated, follow local practices .
1. The FNC includes protection panels that accept standard 5-pin protection modules, one protection
module for each field pair. The equipment side wiring originates on the Total Access 3000 shelf back-
plane amphenols and terminates on the equipment side cross-connect wire-wrap pin s.
The loop side originates on the cross-connect wire-wrap pins and terminates on the 200-pair protector
panel.
2. The protector panel is mounted in the left-hand side of the splice chamber. An identifying tag shows
the pair count of each protection panel. Outside plant cables are pulled in, tie-wrapped, and spliced to
their respective pair count.
3. Using the splicing pair-count formation on the stubs, arrange the appropriate cable binder groups with
the corresponding binder groups on the splicing support bars.
Refer to Marconi document 640-205-001, Section 5.3, Protection Panels, for detailed protection panel
information. See
