3.4 Booting the OS

The EFI Boot Manager automatically starts after a BIOS boot up.

3.4.1 OS Boot from EFI Boot Manager

When the OS is installed, the OS boot options are automatically registered in the EFI Boot Manager. You can select
and boot the OS from the EFI Boot Manger.

Boot option maintenance menu
Use the arrow keys to change settings.
To boot the OS from the EFI Boot Manager, select the OS boot option using the arrow keys and press Enter.

3.4.2 EFI Boot Manager

From the EFI Boot Manager, you can choose to invoke the EFI Shell prompt, boot the OS (if the option is
pre-registered.), or invoke the Boot Maintenance Menu. When you use the EFI Boot Manager, please follow the
guidelines below.

The operation must be done by a system administrator.

Do not chose or execute items that are not explained in this document, the system may not boot up
after an incorrect operation.

Contact your NEC service provider if a BIOS update is necessary.

The newest version of the EFI Boot Manager is installed on the system; some items may be different
from this document. Please refer to online help or ask your NEC service provider.

Please write down the current settings for reference. If you change any settings, write down the new
settings.

If you change any settings, please save the changes. See 3.4.3 Backup BIOS Setup / EFI Setting
for more details.
3.4.3 EFI Shell [Built-in]
The EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface) is a hierarchy above the firmware that is the same as the BIOS for
IA-32 systems.
The EFI loads an OS to the system memory in order to control the system. The EFI shell is only used by an
authorized NEC service representative to perform maintenance activities. Please do not use EFI during normal
operations.
