The GPSMAP 196 will store separate weight and balance infor-
mation for each aircraft on the Aircraft Profi le screen.
Select the 'Empty Aircraft' option to zero out the weight fi gures
for all but the aircraft empty weight (and still retain all the
arm values).

'Weight & Balance' may be used during your pre-fl ight preparations to verify the weight and balance
conditions for your aircraft. By entering the weight and arm values on this page, the GPSMAP 196 can
calculate the total weight, moment and center of gravity (CG) fi gures, ensuring a safe fl ight every time.
Before entering the various fi gures, you will need to determine the basic empty weight of the air-
plane and the arm (or 'station') for each weight entered. These fi gures should be determined using the
pilot' s operating handbook for your airplane. The pilot' s operating handbook will also note the weight
limitations and fore/aft CG limits. Compare those fi gures to the values calculated by the GPSMAP 196.
To perform weight and balance calculations:
1. From the 'Aircrft' tab, use the ARROW KEYPAD to select 'Weight & Balance' at the top of the page.
2. Use the ARROW KEYPAD to highlight the desired weight fi eld and press ENTER.
3. Use the ARROW KEYPAD to enter the weight fi gure. Press ENTER when fi nished.
4. Use the ARROW KEYPAD to highlight the corresponding arm fi eld and press ENTER.
5. Use the ARROW KEYPAD to enter the arm fi gure. Press ENTER when fi nished.
6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 above until all fi gures are entered. The calculated moment, weight and CG
fi gures will appear at the bottom of the page. Keep in mind that the "Aircraft" (empty weight/arm)
fi gures must be entered as a reference to calculate a valid moment, weight and CG.
