Route Tab
'Remove Approach' will remove the approach waypoints from the
route and restore the destination airport location in the route.
Fuel fl ow fi gures are used to calculate fuel requirements for the
route. Note the 'Leg Fuel' fi gures above.

• Remove Approach— appears only when an approach has been selected. Allows you to cancel the
approach and return to the route to the original airport destination.
• Set Speed and Fuel— allows you to enter a cruising speed and fuel fl ow fi gure. The GPSMAP 196
uses these fi gures to calculate ETA, ETE, and leg or cumulative fuel requirements. This information
can be used with saved routes for trip planning purposes.
To enter planned speed or fuel fl ow fi gures:
1. From the 'Route' tab, use the ARROW KEYPAD to highlight the desired route and press ENTER.
2. Press MENU, highlight 'Set Speed and Fuel' and press ENTER. A pop-up window appears to enter
these fi gures
3. Use the ARROW KEYPAD to select the desired fi gure and press ENTER.
4. Use the ARROW KEYPAD to set the desired fi gure. Press ENTER once the data has been entered.

The units of measure for fuel fl ow (gallons or liters) are not included on the GPSMAP 196,
since they are not required for calculations. Keep in mind the units from which the original
fl ow rate fi gure was derived as you view the calculated fuel requirements fi gures.

For trip course, distance, time and fuel planning on the ground: create a new route as out-
lined on page 65, then enter a planned cruising speed and fuel fl ow as described above.
The planning fi gures are displayed on the Route Review Page. Use the LEFT/RIGHT portion
of the ARROW KEYPAD to view all the planning fi gures in right-most data column.
• Delete Route— deletes the selected route from memory. Only the route is deleted. Any user-created
waypoints contained in the route will remain in memory and will still appear in the user waypoint list.
