A. This appliancehas a pilot which must be lightedby
hand.WhenIighUng the pilot,followtheseinstructions
exactly.
B. BEFORELIGHTING smellall aroundthe appliance area
for gas, Be sure to smell next to the floor because
somegasis heavier thanair andwillsettleon thefloor.
WHAT TODOIF YOUSMELLGAS
• Do nottry to light anyappliance.
• Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any
phonein yourbuilding.
• Immediately call yourgassupplierfrom a neighbor's
phone.Followthegassupplier's instructions.

• If you cannot reach your gas supplier,call the fire
department.
Useonlyyour handto pushin or turnthe gas control
knob.Neverusetools. If the knobwill not pushin or
turnby hand,donl try to repair it, call a qualified ser-
vicetechnician.Forceor attempted repairmay result
in a fire or explosion.
Do not usethis applianceif any part has been under
water.Immediately call a qualifiedservicetechnician
to inspectthe appliance andto replaceanypart of the
controlsystem and any gas controlwhichhas been
underwater.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. STOP!Readthesafetyinformation aboveonthis label.
2, Remove outerdoor.
3. Set the thermostat to lowest setting by turning the
watertemperature dialclockwise, ( f-'_) to itslowest
temperature setting(witharrowon dial)as shown.DO
NOT FORCE.
4. Turngas controlknobclockwise_'* to OFF"posi-
tion.Knob cannot be turned from "PILOT" to "OFF"
unlessknobis depressed sgghtly.DO NOT FORCE.

Wait five (5) minutes to clear out any gas. If you then

smell gas, STOP. Follow B in the safetyinformation
above on this label If you don't smell gas, go to the
nextstep.
Remove(or open) inner door located belowthe gas
controlunit.(Figure8, page19)
Find pilot-follow metaltubefrom gas control.The pilot
is locatedonthe righthandsideof theburner.
PILOT BURNER __THERMOCOUPLE
If you don'tsmellgas,turnknobon gascontrolcounter

9. Push in control knob all the way and hold down.
Immediately lightthe pilotwith a match.Continueto
hold control knob in for about one (1) minuteafter
the pilot is lit. Releaseknoband it will pop back up.
Pilotshouldremainlit. If it goes out, repeatsteps 3
through8.
• If knobdoes not pop up when released, s topand
immediatelycall your service technicianor gas
supplier.
• If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries,
depressand turnthe gascontrolknobclockwise
_' ) to "OFF"and call yourservicetechnician

10. Replace(or close) inner door.Replaceouter door if
door does not covergas controlon/offknobor tem-

11. At armslengthaway,turngascontrolknobcounter-
clockwise _)_ to the full "ON" position.

12. At arms length away,set the thermostatto desired
setting. T he mark( • ) HOTindicative of approximate
120°F is preferredstarting point. Somelocal laws
may requirea lowerstartingpoint.If hotterwater is
desired,see instruction manualand "warning" below.
13.Replace theouterdoorif not replaced in step10.

TO TURN OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1. Set the thermostat to lowest settingby turning the
watertemperature dial clockwise (Y"-'%)to its lowest
temperature setting(witharrowon dial)as shown.DO
NOT FORCE,
2. Turngas controlknobclockwiseVl to "OFF"posi-
tion. Knob cannotbe turnedfrom "PILOT" to "OFF"
unlessknobis depressed slightly.DO NOT FORCE.
