The Intercom page (FIG. 57) lists all intercom zones that can be called. In addition, you can select
to page all zones. The UP and DOWN arrow buttons are used to scroll through the list of intercom
zones.
When paging all zones the microphone immediately goes active. See the Paging All Zones page
(FIG. 58) for details. When placing a call to a single intercom zone, the microphone does not
activate unless the zone is available. If the called zone is not available the caller's keypad switches
to the Intercom Error page (FIG. 61). If the called zone is available, the caller's microphone
immediately goes active, audio in the called zone is cut-off, and the caller's microphone output is
routed to the called zone. At this point there is a one-way voice conversation only. That is, the
called zone can hear the caller, but the caller cannot hear the called zone. The caller's keypad will
switch to the Intercom Call-In-Progress page (FIG. 60), and the called zone switches to the
Intercom Call Notification page (FIG. 59).
Intercom zones can also be configured as "monitored" zones. The easiest way to describe this is to
think of a baby monitor. The microphone is in the room to pick up noises from the baby, the speaker
is in another room to listen. Likewise, if an intercom zone is configured as a monitored zone, when
that zone is called there is an automatic connection made. However, unlike calling a normal zone
the callers microphone does not go active, and the called zones speakers do not go active. Instead,
this process is reversed. The caller's speakers go active, and the called microphone goes active.
Also, unlike a normal intercom call, the timeout is automatically turned off.
