Visually inspectthe sparkplug.Discard the sparkplugif thereisapparent
wear, o r if the insulatoriscracked or chipped.Clean the sparkplugwith a
wirebrushif it isto be reused.
Measure the plug gapwith afeelergauge.Correctasnecessary b y
bendingsideelectrode.SeeFigure 31.Thegapshouldbe setto between
0.024-0.031 in.

Check thatthe sparkplugwasher isin goodconditionandthreadthe spark
plug inbyhandto preventcross-threading.
5.
Afterthe sparkplug isseated, t ightenwith asparkplugwrenchto compress
the washer.
NOTE: Wheninstallinga newsparkplug,tighten 1/2turn after thespark
plugseatsto compress t he washer. W henreinstallingausedsparkplug,
tighten 1/8-1/4 turn afterthe sparkplugseats to compress t he washer.
IMPORTANT: Thesparkplug mustbesecurely tightened.An improperly
tightenedsparkplug canbecome veryhot andmaydamage the engine.
Keep gasoline awayfromsparks, o penflames,pilotlights,heat,andother
ignitionsources.
Check fuel lines,tank,cap,andfittings frequentlyforcracks or leaks.Replace
if necessary.
Before replacing the fuel filter,drainthe fuel tankasin ToDrain the Fuel.
Donot drainfuelwhen the engineishot.Allowthe engineadequate timeto
cool.Drainfuelinto anapproved container o utdoors, a wayfrom openflame.
Drain anylargevolumeof fuelfrom the tank bydisconnecting t he fuel line
from the in-linefuelfilter nearthe engine.
Remove t he fuellinefrom the In-lineside(sidetowardsthe fueltank)of the
fuel filter.
Replacement partsmustbethe sameandinstalledinthe samepositionas
the originalparts.
Iffuel spills,waituntil it evaporates b eforestartingengine.
Before replacing the fuel filter,drainthe fuel tank.Otherwise, fuel canleak
out andcause afire or explosion.
To DrainThe Fuel:
Locate thefuelfilter,whichisroutedonthe leftsideofthe engine between
the fueltankandthecarburetor, andmaybeattached to the engine withatie
strap.Cut t he tiestrap,if present, t henpinchthe in-lineclamponthe fuelfilter
with apairofpliers,slidethe clampupthefuel line.Pullthefuellinefreefrom
the filter andplace theopenendofthe lineintoanapproved container t odrain
the fuel.
ToChange The Fuel Filter:
I.
Use pliersto squeeze t he tabsonthe otherclamp(theout-linesideofthe
fuel filter),andslidethe clampawayfrom thefuel filter.Twistandpullthe
fuel lineoff of the fuelfilter. SeeFigure 32.
2.
Check the fuel linesforcracks or leaks. R eplace if necessary.
3.
Replace t he fuelfilter with anoriginalequipmentreplacement f ilter.
Call 1-800-4-MY-HOME _to purchase the original equipment
replacementfilter.
4.
Secure the fuel lineswith the clamps.
Thefuel filter cannotbecleaned andshouldbereplaced every100operatinghours;
moreoften if runwith old gasoline.
