OPERATION
SHG, LRG and LHG Types
When operating in shallow water, tilt
the outboard motor, using the tilt
lever, so the propeller and gear case
won't hit the bottom.

To tilt the outboard motor, move the
tilt lever to the TILT position, then
raise the outboard motor to the
TILT ANGLE
desired position by pulling on the
engine cover grip.
Do not use the tiller handle as a
lever to raise the outboard motor.
Applying excessive f orce to the tiller
handle can damage it.

While the outboard motor is tilted,
proceed at a low speed, and do not
operate the outboard motor in reverse.
The outboard motor will rise
suddenly if operated in reverse.
Monitor water flow from the cooling
system indicator (p.

) to be sure
the outboard motor is not tilted so
high that the water intake is out of
the water.
An excessive tilt angle during
operation can cause propeller
ventilation, overheating, and water
pump damage. This type of damage
is not covered by the
Distributor's
Limited Warranty

To return the outboard motor to the
normal operating position, move the
tilt lever to the LOCK (RUN)
position. You may need to raise the
outboard motor slightly to disengage
the tilt mechanism, and then slowly
lower the outboard motor.
