Problem
Cause/Solution
Off is selected for Sound settings>Shutter
No sound when shutter is
sound in setup menu. No sound is heard with
released,
some shooting
modes and settings, even when
AF-assist illuminator does not
light.
Images appear smeared.
Colors are unnatural.
Randomly spaced bright pixels
("noise") appear in image.
Images are too dark
(underexposed).
Images are too bright
(overexposed).
Unexpected results when flash
set to _@ (auto with red-eye
reduction).
On is selected.
Off is selected for the AF assist option in the
setup menu. AF-assist illuminator
may not light
depending
on the position of the focus area or
the current scene mode, even when Auto is
selected.
Lens is dirty. Clean lens.
White balance or hue is not adjusted properly.
Shutter speed is too slow or ISO sensitivity is high
as the subject is dark. Noise can be reduced by:
Using flash.
Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity setting.
The flash is lowered, or the flash mode is set to
(_) (off).
Flash window
is blocked.
Subject is beyond flash range.
Adjust exposure compensation.
Increase ISO sensitivity.
Subject is backlit. Select _1 (backlighting)
or
set the flash mode to _ (fill flash).
Adjust exposure compensation.
When using _@ (auto with red-eye reduction)
or [] (night portrait) to take pictures using the
flash, In-Camera Red Eye Fix may be applied to
areas not affected by red-eye. Use any shooting
mode other than [] (night portrait), change the
flash mode to any setting other than _@ (auto
with red-eye reduction), and then try taking a
picture again.
