Periodicadjustmentof the six speedshiftcablemay be
necessarydue to normalwearon the cable.Adjustment
is neededif all six speedsdo notwork.
The adjustablecablebracketis locatedon the left side
of the mowerbesidetheengine.See Figure13.Start
engineand placeshiftleverin the sixthspeedposition.
Stop engineand disconnectspark plugwire and groundit
againstengine.
1. Loosenhexnut which securesthe adjustablecable
bracket.See Figure13.
2. Pushbackon theadjustablecable bracket.
3. Tightenhex nut.

WARNING:When removingcutting
blade for sharpening or replacement,
protectyour hands with a pairof heavy
gloves or use a heavy rag to hold blade.
1. Disconnectsparkplug wirefrom spark plug.Turn
moweron its side makingsurethat the air filter and
the carburetorare up.
2. Removebolt, blade bell support,blade,and blade
adapterfrom the enginecrankshaft.See Figure14.
NOTE:Whenremovingthe blade,blade adapter,etc., be
careful notto removeor lose parts aboveit associated
with the engine pulley.
3. The bladecan be sharpenedwith a fileor on a grind-
ing wheel.Do notattemptto sharpenthe blade while
it is still on the mower.Whensharpeningblade,follow
originalangle of grind.Grind cuttingedgesequallyto
keep bladebalanced.
4. Removebladefrom the adapterfor testingbalance.
Balancethe bladeon a roundshaftscrewdriver to
check. Removemetalfrom the heavysideuntil it
balancesevenly.

WARNING:An unbalanced blade will
causeexcessive vibration when rotating
at high speeds. It may cause damage
to mower,and could break causing
personalinjury.

5. Lubricatethe enginecrankshaftand the inner
surfaceof the bladeadapterwith lightoil. Slide the
bladeadapterontotheengine crankshaft.Placethe
bladeon the adaptersuchthat the sideof the blade
marked"Bottom"(or with partnumber)facesthe
groundwhenthe moweris in the operatingposition.
Makesurethat bladeis alignedand seatedon blade
adapterflanges.
6. Placebladebell supporton the blade.Align notches
on the blade bell supportwith small holesin blade.
Replacehexbolt and tightenhexbolt to torque:450
in. Ibs.rain.,600 in. Ibs. max.
Toensuresafeoperationof yourmower,periodically
checkthe bladebolt for correcttorque.
