WARNING
Be sure to shutthe
engine off, remove ig-
nition key, disconnect
the spark plug wire(s)
and ground against
the engine to prevent
unintended starting
before removingthe
belt(s).

a pinching injury.Do
not place your fingers
on the idler spring or
between the belt and a
pulley while removing
the belt.

3. a. Removethe beltkeeperrod fromaroundthe engine
pulley.
b. Inserta 3/8"-driveratchetwrench(setto loosen)
intothe squareholefound inthe idlerbracketon the
left side of the deck'ssurface.
c. Graspthe ratchet'shandleand pivot ittowardthe
frontof the tractorto relievetensionon the belt.
d. With belttension relieved, c arefullyremovethe
belt from around the left-hand spindle pulley.
IMPORTANT: C arefullyallowthe ratchetto pivotrearward
beforeremovingitfrom the squarehole.

3. a. Graspthe rearmostportionof the PTOidlerbracket
and pivot itawayfrom the dischargechuteto relieve
tensionon the PTObelt. See Figure25.
b. Removethe PTObeltfrom aroundtheengine pulley
and from aroundthe PTOidlerpulley(s).
c. Graspthe deck idlerpulleyand pivot ittowardthe
left to relievetensionon the deck belt.

All beltson yourtractorare subjectto wearand should
be replacedifanysigns of wearare present.
IMPORTANT: T heV-beltsfoundon yourtractorare
speciallydesignedto engageand disengagesafely.A
substitute(non-OEM)V-beltcan be dangerousby not
disengagingcompletely.Fora properworkingmachine,
usefactory approvedbelts.
Tochangeor replacethe deck belt and PTObelton your
tractor,proceedas follows:
1. Lowerthe deck by movingthedeck lift leverintothe
bottomnotchon the rightfender.
2. Removethe beltguardsby removingthe self-tapping
screwsthat fastenthem to the deck.

4. Removethedeck belt fromaroundall pulleys,including
the deck idler pulley.
5. Routethe newbelts (deck beltfirst- 46"deck) as
shownin and Figure26 and 27.
6. Remountthe beltguardsremovedearlier.
