INDEXING
The spind e pu ey contains 36 equally spaced holes. The
index p_n engageswith these hotes to keep the spindle
from turning while you put a mark on the workoiece
For example:
TO locate the position of six spokes in a
wheel:
I. Pulltheindexpinoutwardandturnitso
that thesmall
cross pin slips into the slot. This will allow the index
pin to engage in one of the holes in the pulley and pre-
vent the spindle from turning.
2. Adjust the tool rest approximately
at the centerline
and make a mark.
3. Pull outthe
index
pin and slowly
rotate the workpiece
until
the pin
slides
into
the next hole
in the pulley.
4. Do this six times and put the next mark on thework-
piece. The two
marks will be snaeed 60 ° apart.
5. Spindle turnings can be divided in the same manner.
