Servicing
the Air Cleaner
Do notuse pressurizedair or solventsto cleanthe air cleaner
cartridge.
Theair cleanerpreventsdamagingdirt, dust,etc.,from enteringthe
carburetor and beingforced intothe engineand is importantto engine
life and performance. N everrun the enginewithoutan air cleaner
completelyassembled.
Replacetheair cleanerevery25 hoursof operation.
1.
Loosenscrewsthat hold the air filter cover.
2.
Opencover and removeair filter.See Figure12.

Discardold air filter.
4.
install newair filter.
5.
Closethe coverand tighten screws.
NOTE:If the filter is torn or damagedin anyway,replaceit.

1.
Makesureengine is leveland thearea aroundoil fill cap is clean.
2.
Removeoil fill cap.
3.
Oil shouldbe nearthe top of theoil fill cap threads,almostto the
pointof overflowing

Onlyuse high qualitydetergentoil ratedwith APIservice
classificationSF,SG, or SH. Select theoil's SAEviscositygrade
accordingto the expectedoperatingtemperature. R efertoopera-
tion sectionfor viscositychart.

Changeengineoil afterthe first five to eighthoursof operation,
and everyfifty hoursor every seasonthereafter. C hangeoil every
twentyfive hourswhenoperatingengineunder heavyload or in
high temperatures.
To Drain Oil
1.
Runthe engineto warmthe oil.
2.
With engineOFF but still warm,disconnectthe sparkplug wire
and keepitawayfrom sparkplug.
3.
Removeoil draincap locatedat the baseof the engine,and drain
oil intoan appropriatereceptacle.See Figure13.

Usedoil is a hazardouswasteproduct.Disposeof usedoil properly.
IDo notdiscardwith householdwaste.Checkwith your localauthori-
_tiesor SearsService Centerfor safe disposal/recycling facilities.

Whenengineis drainedof all oil, replaceand tightenthe oil drain
cap.
5.
With the enginelevel, refillwith approximately 28 oz. of freshoil.
Fillthe oil up intothe threadsof the oil fill plug,almostto the point
of overflowing.
6.
Replacethe oil fill plugand wipe up anyoil that may havespilled
or overflowed.
7.
Replacespark plugwire beforestarting.
