Chapter 8 Creating and Publishing a Map
To keep track of access to your map, you can set a tracking ID that is stored
with the map. When users access a map that has a tracking ID, every action
they perform (such as panning or zooming) can be logged by Autodesk
MapGuide Server. Using Autodesk MapGuide Server Admin, you can then
run a report to monitor usage based on the tracking ID. This can be useful,
for example, if you want to charge customers for using your maps.
You use the Security tab of the Map Window Properties dialog box to
specify a tracking ID for a map. For step-by-step instructions, choose
Help
Contents, click the Index tab, and look up "tracking ID."
Saving your map as an MWF is the last step in creating your map. As with all
software programs, it is a good idea to save periodically to avoid lost work if
your system fails.
Warning After you save a map in Release 5, you cannot open the map in earlier
releases of the program. Autodesk MapGuide Viewer users using older versions
can easily upgrade to Release 5 by downloading the new Viewer from:
http://www.autodesk.com/prods/mapguide/download/index.htm
If you opened the map using its web URL by choosing File
instead of File
Open, you can save the map locally, but you cannot save it
to the web server. You can save the map to the web server only if you opened
the map using File
network, and you have the proper permissions set up. For more information
about setting permissions, refer to "Creating and Modifying Users and
Groups" on page 78.
You use the File
