5. COMMON INTERFACE (for Pay Service Channels)

• Slot for a Common Access module: This STB is equipped with one PCMCIA slot. When a Common
Interface CAM is inserted inside the PCMCIA slot, the system detects the type of the CAM
automatically and display in the main menu. This STB supports Common Interface CAMs under DVB
specification. The CI CAMs include a built-in smart card reader.
• Insert the smart card into the CAM gently with the gold coloured chip upwards.
• Slide in the CAM gently inside the slot so that it sits in the socket tightly.
To be able to receive scrambled digital terrestrial channels you will need a Smartcard and/or a
Common Interface CA (Conditional Access) module* from the Service Provider of your choice. The
Service Provider is the programme distributor. If you are subscribing to services from more than one
Service Provider, you might have to change between different Smartcards and/or CA modules. Please
note that a Smartcard and CA module may only be valid for a single Service Provider and due to this,
a specific range of channels.
The Smartcard and the CA module may also provide access to special menus not described in this
manual. If so, please follow the instructions from the Service Provider. Only "free to air" channels are
available without the Smartcard and/or the CA Module.
Note: The Smartcard and / or the CA module are distributed by your Service Provider. After inserting
the card, leave it in the slot permanently. Do not remove it again, unless your Service Provider asks
you to do so. This is important, because if your Service Provider wants to download new information to
the Smartcard, the card has to be in the slot.
* Only use a DVB Standard Common Interface CA Module.
WARNING: Do not insert or remove module when the set-top box is running.
