HP alerts in Operations Manager include clear event details and knowledge-based data designed to
enable rapid analysis of real-time and prefailure conditions. Certain hardware events reported to the
Windows® Event Log can also generate additional events that indicate a change in hardware state.

WMI management and planning

HP Insight Management WBEM Providers enables WMI-based server management to ProLiant servers.
The providers offer server management instrumentation through WMI protocol while HP Insight
Management Agents provide it through SNMP protocol. HP continues to improve the providers to match
the same and more capability than the agents. For more information, see the HP Insight Management
WBEM Provider (2.1 or higher) User Guide.
HP ProLiant Server WMI Management Pack is designed to bring WMI management capability easily and
seamlessly. The user imports the WMI management pack and installs the providers, and then WMI
management starts automatically without any customization. HP does not recommend installing both the
providers and the agents on a server because it causes instrumentation redundancy and the use of system
resource. If the user selects to install both the providers and the agents, HP ProLiant Server management
pack selects the agents as default. For more information, see Overriding HP ProLiant server management

The following are key features of the HP ProLiant Server WMI Management Pack:

The View in Operation Manager Console is shared with base management pack. No new view is
added.
•
Class data structure is based on the original server management pack, and operation and process is
the same with released management pack.
•
WMI management can be force-enabled by using the override setting if a server has both the HP
Insight Management WBEM Providers and the HP Insight Management Agents installed but want to
use WMI management.
•
HP ProLiant Server WMI Management Pack is part of the current HP ProLiant Server Management
Pack. The installer is updated to add import selection menu to enable WMI Management.
