Preventing Lightning
Damage
To prevent damage caused by the static electricity, insure that:
The equipment is grounded
The equipment room is dust-proof
Adequate temperature and humidity conditions prevail
The operator wears the ESD-preventive wrist strap, ESD-preventive gloves and
ESD-preventive clothes while contacting the circuit board.
The dismantled circuit board is placed upward on the ESD preventive
workbench, or put into an ESD preventive bag.
You avoid holding the outside edge of the circuit board while observing or
removing the circuit board, to avoid direct contact with the elements of the
circuit board.
All interference sources, whether from outside the router, from the application
system, or from inside the router, can damage the router and influence the
conduction patterns of capacitance coupling, inductance coupling,
electromagnetic wave radiation, common impedance, including the grounding
system, coupling and wire, such as power cords, signal cables and output cables.
Take the following precautions:
Take effective measures against electrical net interference for power supply
system.
Do not use the working ground of the router together with the grounding
device of the power equipment or thunder-proof grounding. Separate them as
far as possible;.
Keep the router away from strong wireless frequencies, radar, and high-current
equipment.
Adopt electromagnetic shielding if necessary.
Although many measures have been taken to protect the Router 3000 series
routers from lightning, damage to the router can still happen. To protect your
router from lightning, take the following measures:
Ensure that the PGND wire of the chassis is well grounded
Ensure that the neutral point in the socket of the AC power supply is well
grounded
To enhance the lightning protection capability of the power supply, a lightning
arrester could be installed at the input end of the power supply
As for the signal line outdoors to which the interface modules of Router 3000
series routers are connected, such as an ISDN line or telephone line, a special
lightning arrester should be installed at the input end of the signal line to
enhance the lightning protection capability.
