Oil Life Monitor

Your Grand Am is equipped with an Oil
Life Monitor that evaluates how the car
is driven and calculates what percent-
age of oil life remains before it needs to
be changed. When the calculated oil life
remaining reaches a certain level, a
"Change Oil" warning light in the instru-
ment panel alerts you to schedule an oil
change.
Resetting the Oil Life Monitor
Whenever you have your oil changed,
the Oil Life Monitor needs to be reset to
allow further monitoring of this function.
To reset the monitor:
1. With the engine off, turn the ignition
key to RUN.
2. Fully push and release the accelera-
tor pedal slowly three times within
five seconds. (If the CHANGE
ENGINE OIL light flashes, the system
is resetting.)
3. Turn the key to OFF, then start the
vehicle. The oil life will change to 100
percent.
