Using Closed Captions

The Closed Caption feature displays captions or text for analog channel
program that include this information in their broadcast. A caption is a
printed version of the dialogue, narration and/or sound effects of a TV
program or a translation into another language. Text is information not
related to the program (such as news or weather information).
The Closed Caption feature is not available for digital channel.
Not all programs broadcast closed captioning. Captioned programs are
usually marked in your local TV listings or on the videocassette tape with the
CC symbol.
To use the closed caption feature:
1
Highlight the Setup icon and press ENTER.
2
Highlight Choose Closed Captions and
press ENTER.
The closed caption feature has four settings:
Caption
Turns closed captioning on and off.
To adjust this setting, highlight Caption and press ENTER
repeatedly until the menu displays the setting you desire
(On or Off).
Mode
Allows you to choose either Caption or Text. Not all
broadcasts include both captions and text. Captions are
more common.
To adjust this setting, highlight Mode and press ENTER
repeatedly until the menu displays the setting you desire
(Caption or Text).
Field
Allows you to choose either Field 1 or Field 2 for captions
or text. The default field is Field 1, but captioning and text
may also be broadcast in Field 2. The HDTV does not control Field 1 or Field
2 modes, they are controlled by the program source (i.e., the TV station, cable
TV system or the videocassette tape). Therefore, if you are having difficulty
configuring the field settings, contact the program source for assistance.
To adjust this setting, highlight Field and press ENTER repeatedly until the
menu displays the setting you desire (Field 1 or Field 2).
Language
Allows you to choose in which language the captions will be displayed.
Not all programs are broadcast in multiple languages.
