Thanks for purchasing this Cornerstone kit. All parts are styrene so use compatible glue and paint to assemble and finish your model.
Please take a few minutes to read these instructions and study the drawings before starting construction.
Transformers are an essential part of the electrical distribution network and can be found worldwide. Most transformers are custom
built to meet the specific needs of each customer, but all of them are big and heavy! Most exceed highway and bridge clearance and/or
weight restrictions, so they're transported by rail, often directly to the site where they'll be installed.
The Walthers Cornerstone HO Scale Transformer Factory kit is based on a typical 1970s-and-later factory. This versatile kit makes a
great addition to contemporary layouts as-is, but you may decide to use it as a metal fabrication business, steel coil pickling operation
or as part of a larger industrial complex.
GANTRY CRANE
1. Beginning with the base, (300), glue the columns (8x
301) into the alignment holes in the base. Check the
vertical position to ensure the parts are plumb.
2. Glue the runway beams and rails, (2x 302) to the
columns. Pay careful attention to the "rail stop" detail at
the end of each rail; these should point up. These parts
will help align the columns vertically, parallel to each
other.
3. Glue two of part (306) together using the alignment pegs
to create the gantry bridge beams. Repeat this step.
4. Glue part (303) to (304) to create the gantry bridge end
truck. Repeat this step.
5. Being careful to orient the parts according to the drawing,
assemble the gantry bridge by gluing the end trucks to
the gantry bridge beams.
6. Glue part (307) to the top of the gantry bridge beams (2x
306 from step 3), noting the orientation: the raised rail
should be towards the inside of the assembly.
7. Glue the hoist housing (309, 310) to the trolley frame
(308).
8. Glue the upper block (311) to the trolley frame.
9. Looping the thread through the pulley block, glue it to the
trolley frame at the hoist housing and upper block pulley.
10. The trolley and gantry bridge can be glued to the runway
beams or left loose so that they can be positioned as
desired.
11. Rail can be laid in the channels in the base (300). Use a
track gauge (not included) to ensure the rail is correctly
spaced.
