Screen mode applied using Fade command, and 50%
opacity applied using Fade command
To fade the effect of a filter, painting tool, or color
adjustment:
Apply a filter or an Image > Adjust command to

an image or selection.

With the affected area still selected, choose
Filter > Fade.

Select the Preview option to preview the effect.

Drag the slider to adjust the opacity, from 0%
(transparent) to 100%. (See "Specifying the
opacity, pressure, or exposure" on page 203.)

For Mode, choose a blending mode. (See
"Selecting a blending mode" on page 205.)
Note: The Color Dodge, Color Burn, Lighten,
Darken, Difference, and Exclusion modes do not
work on Lab images.
Click OK.

Using filter shortcuts
These techniques can help save time when
working with filters:
To cancel a filter as it is being applied, press Esc
or Command-(.) (period) (Mac OS only).
To undo a filter, press Ctrl+Z (Windows) or
Command+Z (Mac OS).
To reapply the most recently used filter with its
last values, press Ctrl+F (Windows) or
Command+F (Mac OS).
To display the dialog box for the last filter you
applied, press Ctrl+Alt+F (Windows) or
Command+Option+F (Mac OS).
Loading images and textures
To produce their effects, some filters load and use
other images, such as textures and displacement
maps. These filters include the Conté Crayon,
Displace, Glass, Lighting Effects, Rough Pastels,
Texture Fill, Texturizer, Underpainting, and
Custom filters.
Not all of these filters load images or
textures in the same way. See the online help
for the Displace filter and Lighting Effects for
information on how to load images or textures
with these filters.
To load images and textures:
Choose the filter you want from the appropriate

submenu.
For Texture, choose Load Texture, and locate

and open a texture image.
