Using Type
Layer effects

Fill shortcuts (see "Filling and stroking selec-

tions and layers" on page 211).
To apply the full range of Photoshop effects (such
as filters) to a type layer, you can convert the type
layer to a regular layer. Converting a type layer
makes its contents uneditable as text.
To edit a type layer:
1 Double-click the name of the type layer in the
Layers palette.
Make the desired changes in the Type Tool

dialog box, as described in the procedure for
creating a type layer on page 292.
Click OK.

To select text:
Position the cursor in the text area of the Type Tool
dialog box, and do one of the following:
Drag to select the text you want to change.

Click to define the beginning of the selected text,
•
and Shift-click to define the end of the selection.
Position the cursor in a word, and double-click
•
to select that word.
Press Ctrl+A (Windows) or Command+A
•
(Mac OS) to select all the characters in the text
area.

To change the orientation of a type layer:
Select the type layer in the Layers palette.

Choose Layer > Type > Horizontal or Vertical

to change the orientation of the layer contents.
To convert a type layer to a regular layer:
Select the type layer in the Layers palette.

Choose Layer > Type > Render Layer.
