    1. COMPONENTS With a reading speed factor of approx. 32 the CD-W54E is a modern high performance CD-RW drive system. It is able to write to CD-R and CD-RW media with a writing speed of 4. The drive is shipped with the following components.

Important Hints for Using the CD-RW Drive What is stated in the specification must be observed for the user to get the most out of the drive.

Cleaning and maintenance of your TEAC CD-RW drive TEAC CD-RW drive will not need maintenance if used as specified in this manual. Usually there are only problems with dirty or defective CDs.

Note: Please ensure the CD is inserted in a way where the plugs at the rear of the disk tray and the spring loaded plug on the front prevent the disk from falling out of the tray.

  • Page 12 With S1 open (jumper not set) the TEAC CD-W54E ist set to sin- gle or slave mode by setting the jumpers S2 and S3. The set mode is irrespective of the CSEL signal. Master/slave mode is determined by CSEL if S1 is shorted (jumper set). In this case S2 and S3 are irrespective for setting the mode.

CONNECTION TO A PERSONAL COMPUTER 5.1 Drive Installation Directions There are three possible positions for installation: Horizontal installation with the eject button to the right, and vertical installation in both possible directions. The installation position is not allowed to be tilted more than 10 degrees out of the vertical or horizontal position.

    If the mounting rails are necessary for installation in a personal computer, contact the personal computer maker or dealer. Note: Be sure to use mounting screws provided. If longer than specified screw is used, the CD-W54E may be damaged. Please ensure to set the master or slave jumpers correctly.

    7. INSTALLING DRIVERS AND THE WRITER SOFTWARE As a general precaution the installation of the hardware has to be carried out as desribed before. The software installation starts with activating the reading functionality of the drive as this is well known with any conventional CD-ROM drive.

    7.3 Compatibility or Interoperability to Other IDE Devices If there are any problems if other drives are connected to the same IDE port (especially IDE-Changer, Phase Change Drive, IOMEGA, and others), the CD-W54E has to be connected as master as a single drive. 7.
