Overview

Overview

Silvia is designed for installation of our coffee pod or capsule kit. For further information, please contact your distributor.

Set up the coffee machine and first start-up

Improper installation can cause damage to people, animals and things

Observe the notes on safety instructions!

  1. Put machine on a level and stable surface, leaving enough free space around
  2. Fill water tank (ca. 2 litres) Use natural drinking water
  3. Open tap
  4. Switch on coffee switch only
  5. Connect to main power
  6. Switch on main switch
  7. Pour 1 l water out of the group Place receptacle under the outlet
  8. Switch off the coffee switch
  9. Dispense 0.2 l of water as soon as it starts to come out of the steam wand; then, close the tap
  10. Empty the receptacle and the drip tray

Switch ON / OFF

Don't switch on the machine before having filled the water tank to avoid damaging the heating element!

For the first installation or after a long stop refer to the chapter «Set up the coffee machine and first start-up».

Switch ON

  1. Fill water tank (ca. 2 litres) Use natural drinking water
  2. Switch on main switch Green light is on

Switch OFF

  1. Remove porta-filter, knock-out coffee Do not damage the filter
  2. Lock porta-filter holder again
  3. Switch off main switch Green light goes off

Use

information Wait for the orange light «boiler heating» to switch off


Hot surface

Check frequently the water level in the tank. Refill if necessary!

Preparing coffee

  1. Use a filter basket for 1 or 2 coffees as required
  2. Fill with ground coffee and tamp Remove leftovers from rim of the filter
  3. Lock the porta-filter into the group head
  4. Put cup(s) under coffee outlet
  5. Start brewing by pressing coffee switch and stop brewing by pressing coffee switch
  6. Remove porta-filter, knock out coffee and lock it again Do not damage the filter

Preparing hot water (tea)

  1. Put cup under hot water spout
  2. Switch on the hot water switch
  3. Open tap slowly
  4. Close tap when the desired amount is reached
  5. Switch off the hot water switch

information For best results: store milk at ≤ 5°C (≤ 41°F).


Hot surface

Check frequently the water level in the tank. Refill if necessary!

Steam wand

  1. Switch on steam switch information Wait for the orange light to switch off
  2. Flush out residual steam condensation
  3. Submerge steam wand in the beverage
  4. Open tap slowly
  5. Close tap when the desired temperature is reached
  6. Remove product when finished
  7. Switch off steam switch
  8. Purge steam to clean steam wand
  9. Clean steam wand with a damp cloth
  10. Switch on the hot water switch, open tap slowly
  11. Close tap as soon as water comes out of the hot water spout, switch off the hot water switch

Daily cleaning

Do not use abrasive instruments. Use suitable detergents for coffee machines and follow the instructions on the package

The drip tray must be empty!

  1. Brew for 3-4 seconds without locking the portafilter in place
  2. Brush the seal under the group head Do not brush the shower!
  3. Insert blind filter disk, add cleaning detergent for espresso coffee machines
  4. Lock the porta-filter into the group head and remove cup-holder grid
  5. Coffee switch: 5 sec. ON / 10 sec. OFF Repeat until water runs clear in drip tray
  6. Remove porta-filter with blind filter disk, rinse both under fresh water
  7. Insert blind filter disk and lock porta-filter again
  8. Rinse several times
  9. Empty drip tray
  10. Unlock the filter basket, clean all parts; Rinse with hot water to dissolve any coffee oil residue
  11. Insert filter basket into porta-filter and insert into group head, reattach cup-holder grid
  12. Clean housing with damp cloth Follow the grain of the satin finish on stainless steel parts

Daily cleaning of steam wand

Do not use abrasive instruments
Use suitable detergents for milk and follow the instructions on the package

  1. Submerge steam wand in milk cleaning solution Follow the instructions on the package
  2. Empty cleaning solution and fill container with fresh water
  3. Submerge steam wand in water and heat it up
  4. Clean steam wand with a damp cloth

Storing the machine

For final decommissioning of the machine, in addition to the above functions, cut the power cable and hand the machine over to personnel authorised for its disposal

  1. Empty the water tank
  2. Empty the remaining water Stop immediately when out of water
  3. Switch off the main switch
  4. Clean the machine See page «Daily cleaning»
  5. Unplug the machine
  6. Cover the cooled machine and place it in a dry room, not exposed to environmental elements

What if...

informationFor any problem that is not specifically indicated on this page, switch off the machine by pressing the main switch, remove the plug and contact our technical support.

...the machine does not start

  • Check that the main switch is ON
  • Check that the plug is inserted

...no coffee, hot water, steam delivery

  • Check that the silicone tubes are not floating in the reservoir
  • Check that the vacuum trap and tubes are correctly inserted
  • Check that there is water in the reservoir
  • Check that hot water and steam buttons were pressed before brewing

...machine not heating up

  • Call technical support

...irregular steam delivery

  • Check that sprayer holes are clean

...coffee comes out too slow

  • Check that the filter and shower screen are clean
  • Check that coffee is not ground too fine

...coffee comes out too fast

  • Check that coffee is not ground too coarse

...there is water under the machine

  • Check that the drip tray is inserted
  • Check that the drip tray has been emptied

...the machine seems to be switched off but the main switch is ON

  • Check that the stand-by function is active by pressing the coffee, hot water or steam button

Silvia E is in full conformity with the European ErP directive, Silvia E consumes less than 0.5 Wh (Watt-hour) in standby mode.

The coffee machine shuts off automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity, as stipulated by the Ecodesign regulatory norms.

Switch OFF
Silvia E switches off automatically after 30 minutes of inactivty.

After this time the green light indicating «Power On» blinks for another 10 minutes and allows for the machine to be reactivated quickly. Just press the ON / OFF button again to restart.

information Silvia E with the Auto-Shut OFF is only available in some countries.

Use of steam
Silvia E shuts off after 30 minutes of the last brewing activity (coffee & hot water).

Before steaming, switch ON the coffee switch for some seconds. Otherwise it can happen, that the machine shuts off during steam generation. This is not a malfunction but a technical feature.

Water Hardness

The hardness of the water supply must be about 5 °dKH, 9 °fKH or 89 ppm, (German, French degrees of carbonate hardness or parts per million). If these values are not respected, it is recommended to use a suitable fi ltering system. The water hardness can be obtained from your local water supplier or can be determined by carrying out a water hardness test yourself.


The machine is equipped with the following protective devices: complete panelling protection of all the parts subject to heat and of the steam and hot water supplier; work surface provided with grill and tray to collect split liquids; thermal protection on the boiler; safe resistance thermal.

SILVIA is a coffee machine that can be installed in other locations such as business canteens, offices, motels, bed & breakfasts, etc. and can operate in both direct (operator) and self-service modes.

Safety instructions

The appliance is not to be used by children under 8 years old or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction.

Children should not play with the machine, whether they are supervised or unsupervised.

Keep the packed machine in a dry place, not exposed to environmental elements and in conditions in which the temperature does not go below 5°C.

Do not place heavy items on the packaging. Do not stack more than three items of the same kind.

Don't leave the packing elements (plastic bags, expanded polystyrene, nails, cardboard, etc.) within the reach of children, as these elements are potential sources of danger.

If liquids inside the machine freeze, leave the coffee machine in a place with a minimum temperature of 20°C for at least 20 minutes before switching it on.

Do not cover with cloths, etc.

Never put any vessels filled with liquid on top of the machine.

Improper installation and use can cause damage to people, animals and things for which the manufacturer cannot be considered responsible.

Leave enough free space around the machine to facilitate its use and the performance of any maintenance operations.

Install the machine on a flat, stable, dry and water repellent surface (laminate, steel, ceramic, etc.) away from heat sources (oven, cooking stove, fireplace, etc.) and in conditions in which the temperature may not go below 5°C (41°F). KEEP WARM.

The machine must not be set up in areas where water tubes or high pressure cleaners are in use! Do not immerse the machine!

Do not leave the machine exposed to environmental elements or place it in a damp room such as bathrooms.

The maximum inclination of support surface must be below 5 ° to prevent overturning.

Switch off the machine and disconnect from power supply before opening the machine or disengaging parts that move when in use.

Use only original spare parts in order to avoid compromising the safety and proper functioning of the machine.

Heating element surface is subject to residual heat after use.

In an emergency, such as fire, unusual noise, overheating, etc., take immediate action, disconnect the power and contact customer service.

For the power supply, the data listed on the type plate must be carefully consulted! When in doubt, contact customer service.

It is inadvisable to use adapters, multiple sockets and / or extensions. When their use is indispensable, only approved products may be used. Check that the current capacity limit indicated on the adapters exceeds the absorption capacity (A = ampere) of the equipment.
