Before use

Acclimatise the thermometer to the temperature of the room: For an accurate reading of a patient's temperature, their body must first acclimatise to the temperature of the room where the measurement will be made. The same applies to the Infrared multifunctional thermometer TM 750. When taken somewhere else, it automatically adjusts itself to the new environment. The thermometer takes a certain amount of time to equalise its own temperature to that of the room. This depends on the difference between the two temperatures and can take more than 30 minutes. Precise readings can only be taken once this process is completed.

Setting the unit of measure, the time and the date:
When the thermometer is used for the first time or after a battery change, the unit of measure, the time and the date must first be set. If you want to return to the setting mode later on, press and hold the SET-button for approx. 5 seconds, when device is switched on. After the self-test (where all the display symbols are shown in succession in the display ) two short beeps can be heard. Now you adjust the unit of measure (°C or °F) with the SET-button . Press the Memory-button to confirm the setting. Use the same procedure (SET-button to adjust a value and Memory-button to confirm) for setting the year, month, day, hour and minute. After the last press on the Memory-button the display shows «OFF» and then the device will switch off automatically.

Information on measuring temperature

  • The sensor of the thermometer must be kept clean and intact at all times in order to guarantee that the measurements are accurate.
  • Ear wax affects the measuring accuracy. If necessary, clean your ear and the sensor tip of the thermometer before measuring in order to avoid erroneous measurements.
  • Before taking a measurement on the forehead, clean the area and remove any dirt, sweat or cosmetics before moving the sensor to the measuring position as otherwise erroneous results could be measured.
  • Do not measure your temperature immediately after eating, training or bathing. Wait for half an hour.
  • Do not take successive measurements at intervals of less than one minute. If you have to take your temperature at shorter intervals, the results may fluctuate slightly.
  • The human body temperature fluctuates within a natural range. There is no such thing as a standard body temperature.
  • Measure and record your body temperature on normal days. This will allow you to detect a fever more easily.
  • In order to make an accurate measurement in the ear, the sensor must be directed at the eardrum and be inserted far enough into the ear canal.
  • Some people will have different readings for the right and left ears. Always measure the same person in the same ear when measuring temperature changes.
  • The measurements can also be influenced by your sleeping position. If someone has slept on a particular ear for a considerable period, the temperature will be higher than normal in this ear. In this case, measure in the other ear or wait for a few minutes before measuring.

Measuring the temperature at your forehead

informationNOTE - Forehead temperatures should only be taken for checking purposes, since the skin temperature at the forehead is easily affected by outside influences, meaning that the measurement can be falsified.

  1. Switch on the thermometer by shortly pressing the button for forehead measurement mode. The device performs a self-test and emits two short beeps. Optionally, you now have the possibility to temporarily deactivate the sound output of the device until it is switched off. To do this, briefly press the SET button ; the symbol disappears.
  2. In order to measure the body temperature on the forehead correctly, the sensor cover needs to be put on the sensor.
  3. Place the measuring head with the sensor (and the put on sensor cover) on a temple and press the button for forehead measurement mode. The symbol for forehead measurement mode appears in the display. Slowly move the thermometer smoothly over the forehead (button still pressed down) to the other temple. Release the button for forehead measurement mode.
  4. After the temperature has been determined, the device emits a signal tone. The result will be shown in the display.
  5. If the measurement result is 38.0°C (100.4°F) or higher, the indicator LED lights up in red (= fever alarm). In all other cases the indicator LED lights up in green.
  6. The measurement result will automatically be saved. After some seconds without pressing any button the device will switch off automatically.

Read the instruction manual carefully before using this device, especially the safety instructions, and keep the instruction manual for future use. Should you give this device to another person, it is vital that you also pass on these instructions for use.

Intended use

  • The medisana Infrared multifunctional thermometer TM 750 is suitable to measure the body temperature of humans. The measurement is carried out with contact to the body in the ear or on the forehead. Additionally the thermometer is suitable to measure the temperature of objects (with contact) in the range of 0°C - 100°C (32°F - 212°F).

Contraindication

  • The device is not suitable for measuring the temperature of infants up to 6 months of age.
  • Only use the unit for the specific purpose described in the instruction manual. Any misuse will void the warranty.
  • The unit is not designed for commercial use.
  • Using this thermometer is no substitute for consulting a doctor.
  • The thermometer and the patient must remain in a stable environment for at least 30 minutes before measuring the temperature.
  • This device is not designed to be used by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities, or by persons with insufficient experience and/or knowledge, unless under observation by a person responsible for their safety, or unless they have been instructed in the use of the device.
  • Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.
  • The temperature in the forehead and temple area differs from the internal temperature, which is taken orally or rectally. Vasoconstriction, an effect which constricts the blood vessels and cools the skin, can occur during the early stages of a fever. In this case, the temperature measured by this thermometer may be unusually low. If the measurement therefore does not match the patient's own perception or is unusually low, repeat the measurement every 15 minutes. As a reference, you can also measure the internal body temperature using a conventional oral or rectal thermometer.
  • A control measurement using a conventional thermometer is recommended in the following cases:
    1. If the reading is surprisingly low
    2. For children under three years of age who have a weakened immune system or who react unusually in the presence or absence of fever
    3. If you are using the thermometer for the first time or want to familiarise yourself with it
  • Repeat the measurement of a body temperature with this device at least 3 times. In case of different measurement results, assume that the highest measured value is the actual body temperature.
  • The values measured with this device are generally only to be regarded as reference values. They never can be regarded as the basis for any medical treatment. Always contact your doctor beforehand.
  • Babies' skin reacts very quickly to the ambient temperature. Therefore, do not take their temperature with this thermometer during or after breastfeeding, because the skin temperature may then be lower than the internal body temperature.
  • If a fault occurs or the unit is damaged, do not attempt to repair the unit yourself, as this will void the warranty. Contact your dealer and only have repairs carried out by authorized service partners.
  • Do not modify and / or open the device. It contains small parts which might be swallowed by children.
  • Do not use the thermometer if it is damaged.
  • Do not use the thermometer in damp environments. Do not immerse the thermometer in water or other liquids. It is not watertight.
