USEFUL INFORMATION ON TAKING TEMPERATURE WITH THE MEDISANA FTC THERMOMETER

What is fever?

Our normal body temperature is between 36°C and 37,5°C. Fluctuations are quite normal, depending on time of day and the body's condition, for example in the female menstruation cycle. However, when body temperature rises above 38°C, the phenomenon is known as fever.

If the fever should exceed 39°C and still persist after 1 to 2 days, you should definitely contact your doctor.

Taking a temperature reading - quickly and accurately!

A fever is often associated with fatigue, pains in the limbs, shivering and chills. The course of an illness can be best monitored by taking a temperature reading 2 to 3 times a day at 4 to 6 hour intervals. Readings should always be taken at the same part of the body and approximately the same time so that the results can be compared.

The MEDISANA FTC Thermometer enables you to quickly and simply determine the current body temperature. Typical errors, such as the duration of measurement being too short can be almost completely eliminated.

Temperature readings can be taken at the following parts of the body:

  1. Under the tongue (oral)
  2. In the armpit (axillary)
  3. In the rectum (rectal)

GETTING STARTED

Inserting / removing battery

The MEDISANA FTC Thermometer is ready to use right away, as the battery is already installed in the unit. However, if the "" symbol should appear on the right of the display after the unit has been in operation for some time, you need to replace the battery. To do this, remove the battery compartment cover and lift the compartment approx. 18 mm out of the thermometer. Use a suitable screwdriver to remove the battery and replace it with a new one of the same type. Make sure the battery is inserted the right way up ("+" - pin is visible). Replace the battery compartment cover.

After that the last reading taken will be shown shortly in the LCD display (a small "M" appears on the right side additionally at the same time). If the temperature is below 32°C, you will see an "Lo" and a flashing "°C" on the LCD display . The MEDISANA FTC thermometer is now ready to take a temperature reading. Insert the tip of the sensor either orally, into the armpit or into the rectum. The thermometer will now automatically begin to take a reading. During the reading, the current temperature will be shown continuously. As soon as the reading is finished, you will hear 10 beeps and the reading taken will be shown on the display . If the reading is > 37,7°C, the thermometer will indicate fever alarm by announcing 10 triple beep sounds. The thermometer will switch off automatically eight minutes after taking the reading. To prolong the life of the battery, however, you should switch off the thermometer manually by pressing start button once you have taken the reading.

Taking temperature readings at various parts of the body

To ensure safe and accurate measurement, you should take account of the following information when positioning the thermometer:

ORAL READINGS:
Place the sensor tip of the thermometer under the tongue and close your mouth. Breathe through your nose while taking the reading in order to avoid inaccurate results.

RECTAL READINGS:
Many patients find rectal measurement uncomfortable, but it delivers precise results. Carefully insert the sensor tip approx. 3,5 cm into the rectum.

ARMPIT READINGS:
Wash the armpit before taking a reading. Insert the tip of the thermometer into the armpit. Lower the arm and press it lightly against the body while the reading is being taken.
