USE HEAVY LEATHER
GLOVES w hen handling w ire
rope. DO NOT LET WIRE ROPE
SLIDE THROUGH YOUR HANDS. A
broken st rand could seriously
injure your hands.
7. NEVER WINCH WITH LESS THAN 5
TURNS OF WIRE ROPE AROUND
THE DRUM since t he w ire rope
end f ast ener w ill NOT w it hst and
a load.
8. KEEP CLEAR OF WINCH WIRE
ROPE AND HOOK WHEN OPERAT-
ING WINCH. NEVER put your f in-
gers t hrough t he hook w hen reel-
ing in or out t he last f ew f eet of
rope near t he hook. If your f inger
should become t rapped in t he
hook, you could lose your f inger.
Use t he HANDSAVER BAR (Figure
3) t o guide t he hook w it hin t he
last f ew f eet . Never guide a w ire
rope ont o or off t he drum w it h
your hand.

9. NEVER HOOK THE WIRE ROPE
BACK ONTO ITSELF . Use a nylon
sling (Superw inch Part Nos. 2531
or 1509). Hooking t he w ire rope
ont o it self can damage t he rope
(Figure 4).

10. It is a good idea t o lay a heavy
blanket or jacket over t he w ire
rope near t he hook end w hen
pulling heavy loads (Figure 5). If
a w ire rope f ailure should occur,
t he clot h w ill act as a damper
and help prevent t he rope f rom
w hipping. Raise t he hood of t he
vehicle f or added saf et y.

11. NEVER USE YOUR WINCH FOR
LIFTING PEOPLE OR M OVING
PEOPLE OR ANYTHING CON-
TAINING PEOPLE. The w inch is
not designed nor int ended
f or use in lif t ing or m oving
people.
12. Your w inch is not designed or
int ended f or overhead hoist ing
operat ions.
13. AVOID CONTINUOUS PULLS
FROM EXTREM E ANGLES as t his
w ill cause t he w ire rope t o pile
up at one end of t he drum
(Figure 6). This can jam t he w ire
rope in the winch, causing damage
t o t he w ire rope or w inch it self .

14. NEVER INSTALL WINCH IN SUCH
A WAY THAT THE WARNING
AND INSTRUCTION LABELS ARE
OBSCURED. Someone w ho has
not read t his manual may need
t o see t hem t o underst and t he
proper operat ion of t he w inch.

unobst ruct ed view of t he w inch-
ing operat ion.
16. IT IS RECOM M ENDED THAT A
FAIRLEAD BE USED t o guide t he
w ire rope ont o t he w inch.

17. NEVER RELEASE CLUTCH WHEN
THERE IS A LOAD ON THE WINCH.
18. STORE THE REM OTE SWITCH
ASSEM BLY IN A SAFE PLACE

19. DO NOT OPERATE WINCH
WHEN UNDER THE INFLUENCE
OF DRUGS, ALCOHOL OR
M EDICATION.
20. ALWAYS UNPLUG THE REM OTE
SWITCH BEFORE WORKING IN
OR AROUND THE FAIRLEAD OR
WINCH DRUM (THE DANGER
ZONE) so t hat t he w inch cannot
be t urned on accident ally.
21. NEVER WORK ON OR AROUND
THE FAIRLEAD OR WINCH DRUM
WHEN WINCH IS UNDER LOAD.
22. When using your w inch t o move
a load, place t he vehicle t rans-
mission in neut ral, set vehicle
parking brake, chock all w heels,
and keep t he engine running.
23. DO NOT USE THE WINCH TO
HOLD LOADS IN PLACE. Use
ot her means of securing loads
such as t ie dow n st raps.

27. Your Husky 10 w inch w ire rope
has a t en-f oot red " saf et y
st ripe" on each end. The " saf et y
st ripe" at t he end of t he w ire
rope t hat at t aches t o t he drum
w arns you t hat t he w ire rope is
almost complet ely payed out .
DO NOT use t he w inch f or t his
last t en f eet of w ire rope since
t he w ire rope end f ast ener w ill
NOT support a heavy load. The
" saf et y st ripe" at t he hook end
of t he w ire rope w arns you t hat
t he w ire rope is almost
rew ound. ALWAYSUSE THE
HANDSAVER BAR w hen han-
dling t he hook (Figure 3). As
you use your w inch, t he red
paint w ill w ear off due t o nor-
mal w ear. When t his happens,
you should renew t he red paint
as it is a saf et y f eat ure of t he
w inch.
