FAQ: Printer
12. My printer does not work.
The guidelines below cover the most common types of problems encountered with printers.
Please read your printer's manual (if any) for specific instructions. Should you need further
assistance, please contact the manufacturer of your printer.
Possible cause
The printer is OFF.
The printer is offline.
The printer is out of paper.
The paper is jammed.
The printer has generated an error
message.
The printer is not connected properly.
Note
Remember to shut down your computer and printer before disconnecting or
reconnecting any cables (even if your printer uses a Hot-pluggable type connection).
No power is supplied to the printer.
The printer cable is damaged.

Possible solutions
Switch the printer ON.
Press the printer's online button.
Add paper.
Refer to your printer's user's guide for information
about clearing paper jams.
Refer to your printer's manual for information
about resolving error messages.
Check that the cables are securely connected to
the printer and computer. Use a grounded AC
power outlet (or power strip).
i. Plug the printer into a different wall socket.
ii. Restart the computer and printer again and try
printing to determine if the previous socket
was faulty.
If you have another printer cable, try using it to
determine if your printer cable is faulty.
