The parts listed in a configuration file are defined as registered parts. Such are for example parts as transformers, PC Boards, key-boards and software. The registered parts of the Sonopuls 492 are marked with a "Y" for "Yes" in the spare parts list in appendix A (column C).
GENERAL The Sonopuls 492 is a microprocessor controlled unit which combines Electro Therapy (E.T.) and UltraSound (US.) therapy in one unit. The unit is equipped with large LCD displays with around the operating keys for a clear display for the parameter settings. The power required for the unit is supplied by a separate power supply.

(i.e. the ultrasound signal). Two types of treatment heads are available for the Sonopuls 492 unit, one type of 1 MHz and 3.1 MHz with a large treatment surface and one type of 1 MHz and 3.1 MHz with a small treatment surface and are suitable for subaqual treatments.
I: The equipment has a safety earth (ground) connection, and must be connected to a wall socket with protective earth connection. BF: The equipment has a floating patient circuit. The Sonopuls 492 meets the require- ments of IEC 601-1, IEC601-2-5 and IEC601-2-10 safety standards.

Sonopuls 492 Service Manual 1497772 DESCRIPTION Because of the modular construction of the Sonopuls 492 the description is on block diagram level. BLOCK DIAGRAM (see appendix B fig. 1) The electronic circuit of the Sonopuls 492 is located on 2 modules: Application module (also referred to as main PC Board.

1497772 TEST EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS TEST EQUIPMENT For the repair and maintenance procedures of the Sonopuls 492 the following test equipment and accessories are required: Digital multimeter 3 ½ digit, accuracy better than 1 %. For example Fluke 77. Two beam oscilloscope, 60 MHz, accuracy better than 5%. For example Philips PM 3055 Safety tester according IEC 601-1.

Sonopuls 492 Service Manual 1497772 MAINTENANCE GENERAL We recommend to check the Sonopuls 492 annually. CHECKLIST The following procedures must be carried out during an inspection and/or after every repair: 4.2.1 Modifications, if any, according to the "Service Info" sheets. See appendix C of this manual for further information.
FUNCTIONAL TEST 4.3.1 Self test Connect the Sonopuls 492 by means of the power supply to the mains supply and switch on the equipment. The Sonopuls 492 will carry out the so-called self test for approx. 10 seconds. At the end the buzzer sounds (otherwise see par. 4.4.1.2). It is assumed that when the selftest is passed all functions of the Sonopuls 492 are okay.
Page 23
Check that the intensity display on the Sonopuls 492 reads 2 W/cm² ± 0.40 W/cm² (otherwise see par. 4.4.1.8) and check that there is acoustical output power (otherwise see par.
Page 24
1497772 4.3.4 Electro therapy module output current testing To check the output currents of the Sonopuls 492 use a load resistor of 500 or 10 k requested and connect the electro therapy output to an oscilloscope. Check that the output signals correspond with figures 2 to 12 at appendix B.
Page 25
E.T. output socket. Set a treatment time Set for 50 mA amplitude on the Sonopuls 492 display. Disconnect the load resistor (while looking at the oscilloscope) Check that the image on the oscilloscope looks like the waveform at appendix B, fig. 6.
Page 26
The signal generated is a high voltage output signal. Warning: When testing the high voltage output of the Sonopuls 492 the voltage at the connections of the load resistor could be up to approx. 400 V. Take precautions that these connections could not accidentally be touched.
Page 27
Switch off the Sonopuls 492. 4.3.5 Remote control test (if available) Connect a remote control to the Sonopuls 492. Use two-pole interferential therapy for testing of the remote control. Check the keys of the remote control one by one. Check the amplitude control for channel 1 Check that the output current of channel 1 increases and/or decreases when the remote control is used.
Page 28
Safety tests The earth leakage current and patient leakage current are applicable to the combination of the adapter-Sonopuls 492 unit combination. To determine the leakage currents it is sufficient to test the mains adapter only. Check the earth leakage current and the patient leakage current in normal condition (NC) as well as in the single fault condition (SFC), see the testing diagram at appendix B fig.
- Check/replace battery if installed Flash code corrupt - Flash processor (see par. 4.5.6) (selftest error) REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES 4.5.1 General When handling static sensitive devices such as the PC Boards of the Sonopuls 492 the following precautions should be observed: 4-11 Maintenance November 2000...
Page 32
Ground all electrical equipment, work-bench, soldering iron etc. After every repair a functional test must be performed (see par. 4.3). Warning: Inside the Sonopuls 492 high voltages are available, beware of electrical shock. Do not touch components or heat sinks when the cover is removed.
Page 33
To be able to (re-)program/flash the Sonopuls 492, you’ll need a special communication cable to connect the Sonopuls 492 to a PC. One side of the cable with the 4-pins mini-din connector is plugged into the remote control connector of the Sonopuls 492. The other side of the cable with the standard 9 pins RS232 connector, is plugged into an available serial (COM) port of the PC.
95 or 98 or NT has been started up completely. Be sure that the Sonopuls 492 is not connected to the PC while it is switched on. During start up, Windows tries to detect devices which are connected to the COM ports. This may disturb synchronisation of the communication between the PC and the Sonopuls 492 Close all non relevant Windows applications.
Relative humidity 10% till 90% (non condensing). Atmospheric pressure 500 till 1060 hPa. STORAGE The Sonopuls 492 and any accessories must always be stored in their original packing. The long term storage conditions are: Environment temperature till 50 Relative humidity 10% till 100%.
