However, your dealer or system administrator may have customized your radio for your specific needs. Check with your dealer or system administrator for more information.

Never obstruct or cover the vent port, even with a label. ● Ensure that no oily substances come in contact with the vent port. ● Your radio is designed to be submerged to a maximum depth of six feet and maximum time of two hours.

Set the antenna in the receptacle. 2. Turn the antenna clockwise to attach to the radio. 3. To remove the antenna, turn the antenna counterclockwise. NOTE: When removing the antenna, ensure that the radio is turned off.

Radio Parts and Controls APX 4000 with Multi-Function Knob (MFK). Top (Orange) Button This button is usually programmed as the Emergency button. These radio controls/buttons are programmable.

Call Alert Allows your radio to function like a pager, or to verify if a radio is active on the system. Call Response Allows you to answer a private call.

Private Call (Trunking Only) Allows a call from one individual radio to another. Private Line Defeat (Conventional Only) Overrides any coded squelch (DPL or PL) that is preprogrammed to a channel. Private Line Disable Allows you to adjust the desired squelch level of the radio.

Text Messaging Service (TMS) Allows you to access the Text Messaging Service (TMS) menu. TMS Quick Text Selects a predefined message. User Allows you to log on to the server with a personally identifiable user name. Zone Select Selects a zone from the switch.

Battery Charge Status Your radio indicates the battery charge status through LED, sounds, and the battery icon on the display. You can also check the battery charge status by using the menu entry. Battery Protection is activated when the battery is low or operating in extremely low temperatures to extend radio communication.

NOTE: The yellow LED illuminates only when the Busy LED feature is enabled through Customer Programming Software (CPS). Blinking yellow Radio is receiving a secured transmission. Solid green Radio is powering up or is on a non-priority channel while in the Scan List Programming mode.

Steady dot The radio detects activity on the designated Priority-Two channel. The vote scan feature is enabled. Secure operation.

Top Lightbar Indicator The Top Lightbar indicates the secondary function of MFK and also the status of Intelligent Lighting.

The lightbar turn into solid color of orange, red, or green depending on the status of Intelligent Lighting. See Intelligent Lighting Indicators  on page 35 for different status of Intelligent Lighting.

Selecting a Zone When and where to use: A zone is a group of channels. Do one of the following to select a radio channel. You can use these options interchangeably depending on your preference and the programmed functions.

  • Page 41 68012004058-JC Chapter 5:  General Radio Operation The Mode Select feature allows you to save the current zone and channel on your radio to one of the Mode Select feature menus (MS01–MS05) on a programmable side button (MS01–MS13). When programmed, pressing the button changes the transmission to the saved zone and channel. When the Preconfigurable Preset Zone and Channel field is enabled, pressing and holding the preferred Mode Select menu saves the current zone and channel to one of the Mode Select menus.

NOTE: Radios with older software versions require firmware update before this feature can be used. Only the administrator have the ability to program Multi-Codeplug menu when the Option is present. Multi-Codeplug Feature is not supported on Model 1.5 Portable Subscribers.
