BS-25AT/25BT Strain Transducer INSTRUCTION MANUAL
Thank you for purchasing the KYOWA product. Before using it,
please read this instruction manual carefully. Also, keep the manual
within easy reach so that you can refer to it whenever necessary.
1. Installation
1.1 Embedment in concrete
Determine the position of installation of the strain transducer by
measuring the distance from the reference point.
As sketched in the above illustration, place steel wires or joint
bars across the assembled reinforcing steel bars, and tentatively
fix the strain transducer in positon.
(Tie a rubber plate, etc. around the steel wires or joint bars at the
connection with the strain transducer to avoid direct contact of the
strain transducer.)
Connect the strain transducer to the indicator and so adjust that
the indicator approximately (±50µm/m or less) reads the initial
unbalance value stated in the calibration sheet. After this, fix the
steel wires or the joint bars.
Connect the extension cable, already distributed, with the strain
transducer's input/output cable, using the cable connection kit.
Connect the strain transducer to the indicator and measure the
initial unbalance value. Also, connect the strain transducer to the
tester and measure the insulation resistance value.
Place concrete little by little, talking care to avoid damage to the
strain transducer and cable.
After placing concrete has been completed, connect the strain
transducer to the indicator and measure the insulation resistance
value.

1.2 Embedment using a strain transducer spider
Fix the spider to the bottom of embedment hole, using reinforcing
steel bar or bolt. At this time, check the installing direction of the
strain transducer.
Set the strain transducer to the spider. (Preliminarily twist the
cable in the opposite direction so that the cable will be free from
twisting after setting.)
Dig a hole whose diameter (or side) is from 1 to 1.5m and depth
is about 70cm.
Using a level, correctly align the stress transducer, which was
installed to the spider, with the prescribed direction.
Cover the group of strain transducers with concrete, from witch
large aggregates were removed, in a manner to from a
hemispherical concrete pile. When doing this, always check to be
sure that the strain transducer keeps the correct direction.
Over this pile, place concrete of the same composition as mass
concrete in a gentle manner. When applying a vibrator, carefully
keep the strain transducer from moving.
Put up a flag to mark the position of the strain transducer for later
convenience.
2. Handling Precautions
2.1 Check that the transducer's manufacturing number agrees with
the test data sheet.
2.2 Check that the transducer's insulation resistance value. (It
should be 100M /50VDC or higher). Be sure to use a bridge
voltage below 50VDC.
2.3 Using the tester, check that the transducer's input / output
resistance are as follows.
Input resistance (between red and black wires): approx. 350
Output resistance (between white and green wires):
approx.450
2.4 Avoid hitting or the other shocks on the transducer, or
disconnection or damage may occur. If shocks should be given
to the transducer, its performance stability may be adversely
affected in long-term continuous operation.
2.5 For transit, keep the transducer's in its case. If it is carried by
holding the cable only, the cable may be damaged to cause
disconnection and / or deterioration of the insulation resistance.
Measurement may thus become impossible.
2.6 Do not disassemble the transducer.
2.7 Be sure to put the accessory cable cap on the end of the cable,
and to avoid water on the conductors.
2.8 Avoid twisting and bending on the transducer, or it may damage.
