    Electrical safety Observe the following rules when working on electrical equipment. Important: Use only approved tools and test equipment. Some hand tools have handles covered with a soft material that does not insulate you when working with live electrical currents. Many customers have, near their equipment, rubber floor mats that contain small conductive fibers to decrease electrostatic discharges.

    Handling devices that are sensitive to electrostatic discharge Any computer part containing transistors or integrated circuits (ICs) should be considered sensitive to electrostatic discharge(ESD). ESD damage can occur when there is a difference in charge between objects. Protect against ESD damage by equalizing the charge so that the machine, the part, the work mat, and the person handling the part are all at the same charge.

    Before servicing ThinkPad T420 and T420i Some models of the ThinkPad T420 and T420i you are servicing might have the SIM card that the customer has installed. If the computer you are servicing has the SIM card, remove it before you start the servicing. To remove the SIM card, you need to remove the battery pack first.

    The only exception to this is if the battery pack is physically damaged or a customer is reporting a possible safety issue. If Lenovo ThinkVantage Toolbox is not installed in the computer, the customer should download this program before a non-physically damaged battery pack is replaced.
