The Camera
It was a bright, sunny day when I photographed this fountain. To make the water in the fountain very smooth and
blur the slow moving water in the lake, I needed a very slow shutter speed.

EXPOSURE MODES

Now that we have an idea how aperture (or f-stop) and shutter speed
affect our pictures, let's look at the exposure modes on the D90. Use
the dial on top of the camera to pick one of the exposure modes. As
you can see there are a lot to choose from! Let's take a look at each
mode, see what options it offers, and when you should use them.
To set the exposure mode turn the dial so that the letter or symbol for
the mode you want is lined up with the white line.
First a quick overview of the exposure modes. About half the dial has
letters representing shooting modes. These are your standard modes.
The other modes are represented by symbols. These symbols are spe-
cialized exposure modes for taking specific types of pictures:
P — Program
S — Shutter Priority
A — Aperture Priority
M — Manual
13 seconds.
AUTO mode is selected.
