In Automatic Exposure Modes
If you elect to use cerfterweighted metering in any of the auto-
matic exposure modes, you can use the exposure compensa-
tion dial to obtain the correct exposure for the types of picture-
taking situations listed
above.
Also under normal conditions,
you can create special

low-key" effects by inten-
tionally over- or
underel ;
<posing the shot. Note that before using
the exposure compensation dial, you must switch to center-
weighted metering

In automatic multi-pattern metering

cannot obtain the necessary amount of compensation

The exposure compensation dial is graduated in one -third stop
increments;
-1
and
-2
indicate one and two stops less expo-
sure, whereas
+1 and +2 indicate one and two stops additional
exposure.
At ASAIISO 4000, the compensation extends to only
-1; at ASAIISO

up to
+1.
