Downfeed Controls
The spindle downfeed movement can be con-
trolled by three mechanisms: 1) coarse downfeed
handle, 2) fine downfeed handwheel, and 3) the
power downfeed system.
Coarse Downfeed Handle
1.
Turn the mill OFF and wait for the spindle to
stop.
2.
Pull the knob of the manual/power downfeed
selector out and move it to the left-hand
manual or "hand" position (see Figure 37).
Note: It may be necessary to rotate the spin-
dle by hand to ensure the downfeed selector
gears have properly engaged.

3.
Remove the fine downfeed handwheel, if it is
installed.
4.
Insert the pin of the handle hub into a hole on
the base, as shown in Figure 38.

5.
Make sure the quill locking lever (Figure 39)
is loose, and rotate the coarse downfeed
handle around its hub to control the depth of
the spindle.
When changing the spindle speed range, the
spindle direction will reverse. Always know
which way the spindle is spinning before
moving the cutting tool into the workpiece.
