SERIOUS INJURY CAN OCCUR IN THE EVENT OF A FALL FROM A WHEELCHAIR. 4 SAFETY SUMMARY Operating Information Warning Unless otherwise noted, all service and adjustments should be performed while the wheelchair is unoccupied. To determine and establish safety limits, practice bending, reaching and transferring activities in several combinations in the presence of a qualified health professional BEFORE attempting active use of the wheelchair.
PDG shall NOT be liable for bodily injury and the warranty will be voided immediately. Weight Capacity The Fuze M50 wheelchair has a weight limitation of 400 lbs. for the standard base frame 5 SAFETY AND HANDLING OF WHEELCHAIRS “Safety and Handling” of the wheelchair requires the close attention of the wheelchair user as well as the assistant.
• Ensure the tilt mechanism is clear of hands, feet or foreign objects. • DO NOT add chair accessories that are not specifically designed for the Fuze M50. Curbs and Steps WARNING: Maneuvering over curbs and steps can be dangerous.

Use the following procedure to tackle shallow curbs, steps or obstacles: Climbing a curb or single step Climbing a curb or single step in the Fuze M50 requires an attendant. The Fuze M50 is equipped with an articulating rear caster arm to aid in navigating curbs and single steps.

PAGE 10 Descending a curb or single step WARNING: NEVER attempt to descend down any curb or obstacle facing forward. To descend from a curb or a single step, position the wheelchair so that the front of the wheelchair is facing away from the curb, ensure there is room to stand between the wheelchair and the curb.
Use the following procedure to maneuver ramps: Ascending a Ramp Navigating a ramp in the Fuze M50 requires an attendant. The Fuze M50 is equipped with an articulating rear caster arm to aid in traversing ramps.
PAGE 12 Stairways and Escalators WARNING – DO NOT Attempt to move an occupied wheelchair up or down any stairs. WARNING – DO NOT use an escalator to move a wheelchair between floors. Serious bodily injury may occur. WARNING – DO NOT attempt to lift a wheelchair by lifting on any removable (detachable) parts.
PAGE 13 Reaching, Leaning, and Bending Forward Functional Reach from a Wheelchair Proper positioning is essential for your safety. When reaching, leaning, bending forward, it is important to use the front casters as a tool to maintain stability and balance. Bending Forward Position the front casters so that they are extended as far forward as possible and engage wheel locks.

PAGE 16 8 UNPACKING AND ASSEMBLY NOTE – Unless the wheelchair is to be assembled immediately, retain cartons and packing materials for use in storing the wheelchair until assembly is required 1. Check for any obvious damage to the carton or its contents. If damage is evident, take pictures of the damages and notify your Dealer/Carrier immediately.

PAGE 20 14 SETUP, ADJUSTMENTS & OPTIONS 14.1 Adjustment Guide The following instructions are intended to help in making wheelchair adjustments. It is important to note the initial wheelchair configuration prior to making changes. When making changes, dealers and users should do so under the guidance of a health care professional who is knowledgeable of the abilities of the wheelchair user.
WARNING – After adjusting, always make sure that parts are properly tightened BEFORE using the wheelchair. The standard seat depth for the Fuze M50 can be adjusted on from 15” to 20”, depending on the position of the rear seat depth insert.
PAGE 22 Adjusting the Seat Depth 1. Loosen and remove the two 5/16-18 flat head fasteners on each side (see Figure 14.2). 2. Adjust the rear seat depth insert to the desired position. 3. Retighten the fasteners. Apply Loctite 243 or equivalent and torque to 18 ft⋅lb.

PAGE 23 NOTE – the Rear Caster configuration is set by the size of the wheelchairs Middle wheels and only changes if the Middle wheel size is changed. When the Axle Plate position is adjusted the Rear Caster Assemble moves as well. If the Middle wheel size is changed then it will be necessary to adjust or replace the Rear Casters.
PAGE 26 14.4 Armrests 14.4.1 Dual Post Arms Adjusting Armrest Height Press the release button on the front tube of the armrest (Refer to Figure 14.6). Adjust armrest to desired height. The armrest height will lock when the release button pops out of the desired armrest height adjustment hole.

To mount the easy out plug-in front rigging, depress the lever located under the plug-in and slide the front rigging into the open square tube receiver (upper frame seat rail).

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO STAND ON FOOTPLATES. Standing on the footplates will cause the wheelchair to tip forward abruptly and may result in a serious fall of the individual. Composite Footplates The default footplates for the Fuze M50 is the composite footplates. These composite footplates offer flip-up functionality. To flip up the footplate simply pull upwards on the inboard end of the footplate.

PAGE 34 14.7 Heel Loops (Optional) The heel loops are positioned behind the occupant’s heels to prevent the feet slipping backwards. Adjust the hook-and- loop strap to obtain the desired length of strap to correctly position the feet on the footrest.
PAGE 35 14.9 Backrest Adjustments and Options WARNING – After making adjustments, always make sure that parts are properly tightened BEFORE using the wheelchair. 14.9.1 Angle/Height Adjustable Push Bar Handle The wheelchair may be purchased with an adjustable angle push bar handle. This handle allows an attendant to change the position of the push bar handle grip and even the tilting lever position, depending on the wheelchair’s original configuration.
14.9.3 Reclining Backrest (Not compatible with Fold-down backrest) The Fuze M50 wheelchair is available with the option of a manual reclining backrest that allows for up to 30 of backrest recline. It is not compatible with the Candle Handle Back, Fold Down Back, and not available for higher seat depths of 21” and 22”.
PAGE 37 14.10 Middle Wheels 14.10.1 Removing/Installing the Main/Driving Wheels/Axles 1. If the wheelchair is fitted with fixed axles, the driving wheels can be removed/installed using a ¾” socket head wrench or equivalent. Tighten the fixed axle nut to no free play only. 2.
PAGE 38 14.10.2 Driving Wheel Axle Nut Adjustment (For Quick-Release Axles) The quick-release axle attaches the driving wheel to the axle receiver. When the axle is fully inserted into both the wheel and axle receiver the detent balls will lock the wheel assembly in place. Pushing the button on the quick-release axle will disengage detent balls to allow the wheel to be removed.
PAGE 39 14.11 Rear Caster Arm (Caster Lift Mechanism) Your Fuze M50 wheelchair is provided with a caster lift mechanism to help navigate curbs, single steps, and ramps (see Section 5.3 - Curbs and Steps).
