You can install up to two route processors in slots 4 and 8 of the chassis.

    Chapter 1 Product Overview Power Supplies Power Supplies The Catalyst 8540 is a 13-slot, modular chassis with optional dual, fault-tolerant, load-sharing AC or DC power supplies. In the event of a failure of source power to one supply, or the failure of one power supply, the redundant power option ensures uninterrupted operation.

    Chapter 3 Maintaining the Chassis Replacing Power Supplies Replacing Power Supplies The redundant AC and DC power supplies support hot swapping. When two power supplies are installed, you can remove or install one supply without affecting system operation. When power is removed from one supply, the redundant power feature enables the redundant power supply to ramp up to full power and maintain uninterrupted system operation.
