    Preface This Hardware Installation Guide describes the features and installation process of the Nortel Networks Alteon SSL Accelerator (ASA) with SSL offload software. Who Should Use This Book This Hardware Installation Guide is intended for network installers and system administrators engaged in configuring and maintaining a network.

  • Page 11 Introducing the Alteon SSL Accelerator The Alteon SSL Accelerator (ASA) is a peripheral Secure Socket Layer (SSL) offload plat- form that attaches to an Alteon Web switch or a comparable switch from another vendor. The ASA performs a TCP three-way handshake with the client through the Web switch and per- forms all the SSL encryption and decryption for the session.
