Wheelchair operation 3.3.2 Motor Clutch/Free-wheel The motor clutch/free-wheel is equipped to allow the wheelchair to be pushed when it is not powered. The clutch/free-wheel is designed for safe manual operation. It is positioned by the rear wheel hub. To disengage the motor for manual push: Pull the disc free-wheel outward (away from the wheel) and turn 45 degrees and release.
Wheelchair operation 3.4 Battery Charger This will be supplied with the wheelchair and will have a main plug fitted for power supply connection. Another charge socket is fitted for connection to the controller charge port. Please see charger front panel and charger manual/instructions for more detail. Wheelchair operation 3.5.2 Controller Operation (continued) Wheelchairs with Two Actuators: Depressing either actuator button will enter actuator adjustment mode. If the LEFT actuator button (cushion tilt- in-space) is depressed the associated LED will be illuminated, and deflection of the joystick will adjust the actuator motor connected to cushion tilt channel.
Wheelchair operation 3.5.2 Controller Operation (continued) 6. Speed/Profile Decrease and Increase Buttons: The Speed/Profile Decrease Button (located on the bottom left of the control panel) decreases the maximum speed setting or, if the control system is programmed for drive profile operation, selects a lower drive profile.
Wheelchair operation 3.6 Driving the Chair Warning! Do NOT attempt to climb over steps or obstacles higher than 10 cm. 3.6.1 Driving Up or Down Slopes Going Up Slopes: 1.Ensure there is a minimum of 2.1 meters (7 ft.) of clear pavement after climbing the slope.
Page 28
Wheelchair operation 3.6.2 Slopes and Uneven Terrain It is very dangerous to attempt to go down a slope steeper than 9 degrees. This is because you will be unable to stop, as the wheels will skid when the brakes are applied. You will lose control and not able to steer or stop.
Page 29
Wheelchair operation 3.6.4 Attendant Control--manual propulsion When the wheelchair has to be pushed by an attendant, please note the following: The wheelchair motor clutch can be disengaged, allowing the wheelchair to free wheel for attendant propulsion. In this situation, the motor brakes are no longer effective. Therefore, do not attempt to manually push the wheelchair on any slopes since there are no brakes to control the wheelchair and it can easily run out of control.
