  • Page 2 This document is for installing alignment shims into the reel cam system to improve the clearance between the cam arms and the cam disc. These instructions pertain exclusively to MacDon Model D50 and Model D60 Harvest Headers and Model FD70 FlexDraper headers equipped with the Pick-Up Reel.
  • Page 3: Step 1. Check Clearances

    maximum gaps between the cam arms and the cam disc occur at the four locations (X1, X2, GENERAL X3, and X4) around the cam disc. e. Measure record minimum maximum gaps and mark at each location. Determine the cam tilt using the formulas in the column in the following table.
  • Page 4 STEP 2. RE-ALIGN CAM DISC a. Mark location on cam disc where shim(s) are to be added. b. Loosen four nuts (A) on cam disc. c. Add a shim(s) (B) (p/n 164061) between cam face (C) and reel hub (D) at the location marked in step a.
  • Page 5 A. SINGLE REEL HEADERS STEP 3. INSTALL “C” SHIMS Perform this step only if necessary to achieve the required gap at all locations around the cam edge. Otherwise, proceed to STEP 4. RUN- UP CHECK. The installation is at the cam end of the reel.
  • Page 6 h. Remove bolts from jacking holes. Apply Loctite 243 to the four ½” bolts and install with lockwashers through hub. d. At cam end, rotate reel to line up bolts attaching cam hub to reel tube with access holes in cam disc.

  • Page 11 STEP 7. RUN-UP CHECK CAUTION Never start or move the machine until you are sure all bystanders have cleared the area. CAUTION Keep all shields in place. Never alter or remove safety equipment. Make sure driveline guards can rotate independently of the shaft and can telescope freely.
