    1.1 Intended Audience This user’s manual was written for technically qualified personnel who will be working with I/O devices using the VPX4840 or VPX4850 carrier cards. It is not written for a general, non-technical audience unfamiliar with embedded I/O devices and their applications.

    VITA 46.9-defined Rear I/O mappings to support a wide range of applications. The VPX4840 products provide Rear I/O support for both the XMC Jn6 connector and the legacy PMC Jn4 connector by implementing the P64s+X8d+X12d Rear I/O Signal Mapping defined in VITA 46.9. This provides for 64 single-ended I/O signals from Jn4 and 20 differential I/O signals from Jn6.

    VPX484x/VPX485x 1.5.1 Broadcom PEX8734 PCIe Switch The VPX4840 series and VPX4850 series each provide PCIe support for up to 16 lanes of PCIe Gen3, with link configurations selectable as 1x16, 2x8, or 4x4 ports. The VPX4841/4851 models make this connection through the data plane, while the VPX4842/4852 make it through the expansion plane.

    It is important that the user employ satisfactory overall system design. It is understood and agreed by the Buyer and Acromag that this is the Buyer's responsibility. WARNING: This board utilizes static sensitive components and should only be handled at a static-safe workstation.

    2. Verify that all DIP switch settings are correct. 3. Verify that the card cage slot is clear and accessible. 4. Install the VPX4840/VPX4850 in the card cage by centering the unit on the guides in the slots (P0 connector facing up). Push the board slowly toward the rear of the chassis until the VPX connectors engage.

    3.2 Power 3.2.1 Power Supply Requirements The VPX4840/VPX4850 boards operate using only the +12V (VS1) and +3.3V_AUX rails on the VPX backplane per the latest guidance in the VITA 65.0 OpenVPX Specification. All other power rails used on board are derived from the +12V (VS1) rail.

    VPX484x/VPX485x 3.4 LED Status Indicators All VPX4840/VPX4850 models come with seven status LEDs along the front edge of the board, between the two XMC sites. These are easily legible on the faceplate equipped with the air-cooled “-20” models. The LED indications on the faceplate can be seen below.

    USER’S MANUAL VPX484x/VPX485x 3.6 Expansion Sites The VPX4840/VPX4850 contains two XMC expansion sites with a PCIe x8 Gen 3 interface. These sites can be used to support a wide variety of industry standard VITA 42 mezzanine cards (FPGA, I/O, Ethernet, etc.).
