2 USE OF SPRING LOADED BRAKE RAM In order to make unloading and manoeuvring possible without air pressure supply, the spring loaded brake rams (FS) and therewith the complete braking assembly have been locked out of use by means of a key bolt (KS). Before the first use, the braking assembly must be set under pressure, the nut of the key bolt (KS) loosened, the key bolt turned by 90°...
3 WARNING STICKERS General Instructions The LEMKEN Smaragd 9 KA-B is equipped with all devices ensuring a safe op- eration. Where danger spots of the implement could not be safeguarded suffi- ciently, warning stickers are fitted. Meaning of the stickers...

5 PREPARATION OF THE SMARAGD 9 KA-B POWER HARROW Brake pressure regulator Depending on the existing axle load the brake power must be adjusted by means of the brake pressure regulator (BR) according to the following table. For the adjustment the lever (HE) must be turned.
6 ATTACHING AND DETACHING THE SMARAGD DISC CULTIVATOR Attaching the disc cultivator - For attaching the Smaragd 9 KA-B the hydraulics of the tractor must be set to position control! - Connect the tractor lower link to the drawbar (1) and secure!
Detaching the disc cultivator The disc cultivator must always be − parked on level and firm ground! Set tractor hydraulics to position − control before detaching implement! Fold-out lateral sections − completely! Remove the wheel chocks out of the − holders and secure! Disconnect braking hoses! −...
- When the Smaragd 9/600 KA-B is equipped with track markers, clamping stops (Y) must be fitted on the pisten rod. After that the Smaragd 9 KA-B will be low- ered until the clamping stops prevent a further lowering.
7 FOLDING-IN AND –OUT THE LATERAL SECTIONS Folding-in the lateral sections ATTENTION: Never fold-in or-out the Smaragd 9 KA-B, when the hollow discs are swung to the front! For transport the lateral sections (40) − must be folded-in. They may only be fol- ded-in or-out, when the implement is mounted to the tractor.
The Smaragd 9 KA-B may only be equipped with an hydraulic folding-out locking device, when the tractor is equipped with lockable spool valves. If the tractor has no lockable spool valves, a mechanical folding-out locking device releaseable by a rope must be used.
8 ADJUSTMENTS Height adjustment of the drawbar The drawbar (1) can be swung into two different height positions. The lower position should be chosen when a better penetration of the cultivator is required or the cultivator is fitted to a crawler.
Share position The share position of SMARAGD and SMARAGD Ü can be altered. A flat share position ensures an even seedbed depth (point (5) and wings (6) work nearly at the same depth) and reduces the traction requirement; a steep share position en- sures a good penetration, even in hard and dry soils.
Depth adjustment of the tines The tines should be set at a working depth of 8 - 10 cm; with greater soil unevenness or deep wheel marks a deeper cultivation depth may be requi- red. After raising the implement some cm the working depth of the tines will be adjusted as follows by means of the pin adjuster (10):...
Working depth adjustment of the hollow discs discs should approximate half the working depth of the tines. The discs (18) are for mixing and for levelling the ridges and grooves left by the rear tines. When working too deep, new ridges and grooves will be built, and when working too shallow, the grooves and ridges left by the tines will be levelled...
Rollers The Smaragd can be equipped with D400 and D540 tube bar rollers as well as with double rollers. The re-consolidation effect of the roller (14) can be influenced by setting the top link steeper or more horizontal; in doing so the tractor hydrau- lics must be set to "Floating position"...
Packer roller scrapers The scrapers (Z1) must be adjusted regularly. They should be positioned to the surface of the roller by the adjuster nuts (Z2) of the scraper carrier (Z3) as shown in the sketch above. If soils sticks to the roller the scrapers must be adjusted. Dried soil on the roller creates high wear and also damages the scrapers (Z1).
Depth wheels disc cultivators Smaragd SMARAGD 9 KA-B are equipped with depth wheels as standard. The depth wheels prevent the outer tines working too deeply. They should not be loaded with too much weight of the disc cultivator.
8.10 Outer discs The outer discs (25) will be bolted to the ends of the hollow disc carriers. They should not work so deep as the inner discs; their purpose is only to move the soil which has been thrown beyond the working width, into the grooves left by the outer tines.
9 SHEARBOLTS Each tine (19) and disc carrier is fitted with a shearbolt (7) which will save cultiva- tor, tines and discs against overload. Replace sheared bolt as follows: a) Raise cultivator a few cm. b) Remove all remains of the shearbolt (7). c) Swing tine and/or disc carrier back into position.
10 SMARAGD 9 Ü WITH AUTOMATIC OVERLOAD SAFETY DEVICE The SMARAGD 9 KÜA-B cultivator is especially designed for stony soils, and the tines (19) are equipped with an automatic overload safety device with springs (35), protecting the implement from damage when an obstacle is encountered.
11 STRAW HARROW STR 80 The straw harrow (H) will be fitted between the following roller and the hollow discs (18) and to the lower carrier (T). By means of the pin (ST) the straw harrow can be adjusted either in working depth as well as in the distance to the hollow discs (18).
The control valve is steadily under pressure. Now each use of the Smaragd 9 KA-B and the Solitair 9 KA can be operated. The simulta- neous fan drive via an additional spool valve is possible.
14 ATTACHING OR DETACHING THE SOLITAIR 14.1 General Instructions The Smaragd 9 KA-B disc cultivator is available with coupling parts for mounting the Lemken Solitair seed drill. The coupling parts include an upper catch hook (FO) and two supporting plates (SP) fitted to the trailer frame as shown in the sketch.
14.3 Detaching the Solitair seed drill - The Solitair seed drill must always be parked on level a nd firm ground. - Before detaching, the hopper must be emptied completely and the lock valve of the coulter bar lifting device opened. - Fold-out and secure coulter bar.
