Oil return system – While the compressor is running, it will slowly loose oil through the compressor discharge line. This oil will travel through the system and eventually accumulate in the surge drum. This oil must then be returned to the compressor. This is accomplished by letting the oil separate from the refrigerant in the surge drum.

NC3 (#27) and C3 (#28) and de-energized the Load Relay (LD) in the Vogt Aux. Box. If high current draw continues, the VFD will fault and shut the machine off. This is done when the VFD DO1 sends a signal to the Low Side’s PLC input X16 telling it that a VFD fault has occurred.
(Low Side’s PLC monitors value and will not allow machine to start if below minimum valve) Oil fault monitor (Vogt Part #: 12A2110P0510 – 24vac/dc powered) If an oil level fault is detected, the status is immediately updated via Modbus. However, the first 90 seconds after compressor start, the fault signal is not activated.

Rotation Direction Monitoring Within the first 5 seconds after start of the compressor, the phases for the compressor are monitored against wrong rotation direction (wrong phase sequence) and phase loss. In case of a wrong rotation direction, the relay is immediately de-energized and the device locks.

Instructions to connect Vogt High Side to Vogt Low Side equipped with an Allen- Bradley PLC using Modbus. NOTE: Modbus communication between a Vogt High Side and a Vogt Low Side is NOT required to run the machine. However, this communication allows us to easily read valuable information as well as reset High Side faults directly from the Low Side HMI without additional hardware and software.
Modbus DB15 Female wiring and Bitzer Comm. Modbus 3 PIN Plug wiring. Make sure to slide the Modbus cable into the rubber adaptor provided with the DB15 adaptor before connecting the wire to the DB15 adaptor, see red cycle on picture below. Connect the Bitzer Comm. Modbus 3 PIN Plug back into the SE-i1 Bitzer Protection Module located inside the compressor junction box mounted directly on top of the compressor of Vogt’s High Side. Bitzer SE-i1 COM1 Modbus Connection “Comm.” light will be “ON” blue when Modbus communication is properly established.
Modbus Communication on Vogt Ice Low Side’s HMI. In the top right corner of the Low Side’s HMI, is a digital blue LED (see red box below). When the Modbus connection with the High Side is NOT established, the digital LED will be OFF. When the Modbus connection with the High Side is established, the digital blue LED will turn ON.

When Modbus communication is established, it is possible to read the compressor’s oil temperature directly from the Low Side touch screen HMI from the “OPERATION” screen. At a compressor oil temperature of 80°F and above, the compressor can be safely started. However, if no Modbus communication is established, no compressor’s oil temperature can be read.
