VEHICLE SEATING LOCATIONS

According to accident statistics, children are safer when properly restrained in the rear seating positions than in the front seating positions.
The safest seating position is one that works best for your specific child restraint, family and vehicle model.
VEHICLE SEATING LOCATIONS - Part 1
Before installing this child restraint you must determine the method of installation and the best vehicle seating position for that method.
When determining whether the child restraint can be used with vehicle LATCH anchors in the rear center seating position, it is critical that you refer to your vehicle owner's instruction manual. If the child restraint does not install best in the rear center seating location, it is recommended to move to one of the outboard seating positions.
VEHICLE SEATING LOCATIONS - Part 2

VEHICLE SEAT BELT SYSTEMS

Some vehicle seat belt systems cannot be used with this booster seat.

  1. ALWAYS install this booster seat in vehicle seats with 3-point (Lap and Shoulder) belts. If your vehicle is equipped with lower anchors, Diono always recommends installation utilizing the LATCH connectors with this booster seat.
  2. DO NOT install this booster seat in vehicle seats with a Lap Belt Only.
  3. DO NOT install this booster seat in vehicle seats with Motorized (Automatic) Vehicle Lap and Shoulder Belts.
  4. DO NOT install this booster seat in vehicle seats with Door Mounted Vehicle Belts.
  5. DO NOT install this booster seat in vehicle seats with Inflatable Vehicle Belts.

CAR SEAT USE AFTER A COLLISION

The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that car seats be replaced following a MODERATE or SEVERE collision in order to ensure a continued high level of collision protection for child passengers.
Car seats do not automatically need to be replaced following a MINOR collision. NHTSA defines a MINOR collision as ALL of the following:

  • The vehicle was able to be driven away from the collision site;AND
  • The vehicle door nearest the car seat was not damaged;AND
  • No vehicle occupants were injured;AND
  • There is no visible damage to the car seat;AND
  • The air bags (if present) did not deploy.

NEVER use a car seat that has been involved in a MODERATE or SEVERE collision.

SEAT ASSEMBLY

ATTACHING THE BACKREST

  1. With seat lying flat on the floor, place hooks at seat bottom as shown.
  2. Attach the backrest hooks to seat mounting points.
  3. Push down on backrest just above hooks until fully engaged.
  4. Rotate backrest to an upright position while maintaining pressure just above the hooks.

INSTALLATION

Unsecured objects can become flying hazards and can cause serious injury in an accident. If your vehicle is equipped with lower anchors, Diono always recommends installation utilizing the LATCH connectors with this booster seat.
To improve safety and performance, this booster seat is equipped with a lower anchorage system that allows secure attachment to a vehicle's lower anchor locations.

  1. Disengage LATCH connectors from storage slots on bottom of seat. While depressing the LATCH adjustment button, rotate LATCH connectors away from the seat bottom and extend fully until you hear a "click".
  2. Place the seat in the vehicle and align the LATCH connectors to the vehicle's lower anchors.
  3. Attach both LATCH connectors to the vehicle anchors. The LATCH lock button will change from RED to GREEN when the connectors "click" locking to the vehicle anchors.

Ensure the LATCH lock button is GREEN on both connectors. If the indicator is RED, use the LATCH button to release the connector from the anchor and re-attach until the lock button turns GREEN.

  4. Booster seat should rest firmly on vehicle seat bottom and touching the vehicle seat back. A gap is acceptable as long as the head support is touching the vehicle seat back or headrest. The entire seat bottom should sit flat on the vehicle seat.
NOTE: Even with LATCH connectors properly attached and adjusted, child seat will still have movement against the vehicle seat back and bottom.

DO NOT use LATCH if installation interferes with vehicle seat belt.

When using booster seat in center seating position, make sure it is stable and does not rock from side-to-side, otherwise choose a different seating position.

DISENGAGING LOWER ANCHOR INSTALLATION

  1. To release the LATCH connectors, pull the grey lock button on one of the LATCH connectors and pull the seat away from the vehicle seat. Repeat for the other LATCH connector.
  2. Remove the seat from the vehicle.
To store the LATCH connectors, push connectors towards the seat bottom until they "click" locked into the storage position.

ADJUSTING THE RECLINE ANGLE

It may also be necessary to adjust the recline angle of the booster seat to match that of the vehicle seat.
This booster seat features a recline angle that can be adjusted to match that of the vehicle seat:

  1. Push booster seat backrest backwards until it moves freely.
  2. Push seat bottom and backrest of booster seat down and back into vehicle seat until there is secure positioning with the booster seat and vehicle seat bottom and vehicle seat back. A gap is acceptable as long as the head support is touching the vehicle seat back or headrest.

ADJUSTING THE HEAD SUPPORT
The head support height can be adjusted for best fit to your child and to ensure proper placement of the vehicle shoulder belt across the chest and over the shoulder.

Adjust the head support height before installing the booster seat in the vehicle.

  1. Turn the head support locks outwards to unlock the head support.
  2. Grip the handle adjustment and pull it out and upwards to adjust the head support.
  3. When it reaches the desired height, release the handle and turn the head support locks inward to lock it fully into position.

SECURING THE CHILD

Use ONLY the lap and shoulder belt system when restraining the child sitting in the booster seat. DO NOT use lap belt only.

  1. Properly position child into installed seat. The child should be sitting upright and seated all the way back in the booster seat.
  2. Adjust head support to proper height: The shoulder belt guide should be slightly above the child's shoulders (at least 1 in).
  3. Feed the vehicle shoulder belt through the shoulder belt guide.

The vehicle shoulder belt MUST route completely through the shoulder belt guide and not fall off the child's shoulder.

The vehicle shoulder belt should lay over the shoulder and should NOT be touching the child's neck.

  1. Fasten vehicle seat belt across child. The lap portion of the seat belt should rest within both lower belt guides. Make sure the vehicle seat belt is not twisted and lays flat across the child's hips, torso and shoulder.

Do not lay lower lap belt over childs belly.
  2. Tighten the seat belt by pulling the diagonal shoulder belt portion in the direction of the arrows.
  3. Confirm seat belt buckle is in correct position. It should align with the RED belt path guides on the side of seat.

DO NOT position the vehicle shoulder belt over the armrest. It MUST pass through the lower belt guide closest to the vehicle buckle. ALWAYS make sure the vehicle seat belt can properly retract before each use.

PROPER BUCKLE POSITION

After booster seat is installed and seat belt is fastened around child, it is important to confirm correct seat belt buckle position to ensure secure installation.

CORRECT SEAT BUCKLE POSITION
Buckle is on the outside of lower belt guide.

INCORRECT SEAT BUCKLE POSITION
If buckle is being pulled across the lower belt guide and into the seat, choose another seating position within the vehicle.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

REMOVING THE COVER

  1. Separate backrest section from seat bottom section.
  2. Remove plastic fasteners and elastics that secure fabric cover to seat bottom, backrest and head support.
  3. Remove fabric cover pieces from the booster seat sections.

DO NOT use solvents, harsh detergents or any other chemical or cleaning agent. DO NOT lubricate any part of the seat.
