1 Required qualifications for installation work
These fans may only be installed, set up, retrofitted,
commissioned, cleaned, serviced or repaired by in-
stallers specialised in ventilation technology. Electrical
connection, commissioning, maintenance and repairs
may only be carried out by a qualified electrician in ac-
cordance with DGUV regulation 3, Section 2 (3) and in
compliance with the relevant standards (e.g. DIN EN
50110-1) and technical rules. Further provisions of
other national laws must be taken into account.
Qualifications, requirements: Specialist training and
knowledge of compulsory technical standards, EU Dir-
ectives and EU Ordinances. Installations are to be car-
ried out professionally in accordance with the planning
documents and the enclosed operating instructions.
Applicable accident prevention regulations, occupa-
tional health and safety measures (protective clothing
in good repair etc.) must be observed. Installation work
by trainees is only permitted under the supervision of
the above-mentioned trained specialists.

3 General safety regulations

● Read these safety instructions in full. Before install-
ation, also read the installation and operating in-
structions of the fan at www.maico-ventil-
atoren.com. Follow the instructions.
● Only use the fan for its intended purpose, see the
installation and operating instructions enclosed with
the fan.
● Use personal protective equipment (protective
clothing, hard hat, protective goggles, etc.) for your
own protection in the event of possible hazards. Pay
attention to the applicable safety and accident pre-
vention regulations.
● Safety devices are designed for your safety. Never
bypass or tamper with the safety devices.
DANGER
● Do not deposit combustible materials, liquids or
gases near the fan → In case of ignition or fire, haz-
ardous substances may enter the rooms with the
ventilation.
● Never operate the fan in an explosive atmosphere
or in combination with a lab extraction unit → Risk
of explosion due to explosive gases and dusts.
● Grease and oil vapours from range hoods may soil
the fan and air ducts and reduce efficiency. Never
use fan to convey these substances→ unit damage.
● Risk of death from carbon monoxide when operat-
ing with air-ventilated fireplaces. Ensure sufficient
supply air intake when operating with air-ventilated
fireplaces. Observe the maximum permitted pres-
sure difference of 4 Pa. This model always requires
the approval of a regional master chimney sweep.
● Choking hazard if packaging materials are swal-
lowed. Keep foil materials and small parts away
from children.
WARNING
● Before removing covers and installing the electrics,
switch off all supply circuits and secure them against
being accidentally switched back on. Position a vis-
ible warning sign.
● Fan does not satisfy standard DIN 18017-3 for single
air extraction systems. Do not use in systems in ac-
cordance with DIN 18017-3.
● Note the insulation of connected ducts and ventila-
tion channels.
● Provide for sound insulation measures for ducts
and ventilation channels. Use tubular sound ab-
sorbers to reduce noise emissions or for acoustic in-
sulation. Recommendation: Insulate the channels
sufficiently to prevent diffusion.
● Never use the fan to convey chemicals or aggress-
ive gases/vapours → Risk to health if these sub-
stances are spread throughout the rooms.
● Operate the fan only with original components →
Risk of injury and risk to health in case of modifica-
tions or conversions or if non-approved components
are used. Changes and modifications are not per-
mitted and release the manufacturer from any guar-
antee obligations and liability, e. g. if the housing is
drilled at a point which is not permitted or when
stepped grommet is used.
● Secure work areas against unauthorised entry, fall-
ing and falling objects → Risk of injury/equipment
damage if the fan or an object falls during installa-
tion, removal, cleaning, maintenance or repair. Pay
attention to the applicable accident prevention reg-
ulations.
CAUTION
● Clean the fan at regular intervals, especially after a
longer period of standstill → Risk to health due to
deposits on the unit (mould, germs, dust, etc.) after
a longer period of standstill.
ATTENTION
● Install the fan in accordance with the planning spe-
cifications → Operation contrary to the intended
purpose if the fan is incorrectly or improperly in-
stalled. Operation is only permitted with a correct
installation position, with mounted cover and ex-
ternal protective grille. The fan may be operated
only if the protection against accidental contact with
the impeller is guaranteed to be in accordance with
DIN EN ISO 13857.
● Never operate the fan during the construction
phase. Fan and ducting can become dirty and dam-
age the fan.
4 Operation and use
CAUTION
● Ensure sufficient supply air intake.
● When the fan is running, keep a sufficient distance
from the fan and do not insert any objects into the
unit → Risk of injury due to the suction effect of the
fan and the rotating impeller. Hair, clothing, jew-
ellery etc. may be pulled into the fan if you get too
close to it.
● People with reduced physical, sensory or mental
capabilities or a lack of knowledge may only oper-
ate the fan if they are properly supervised or have
been correctly instructed regarding the dangers by a
responsible person. This also applies to children.
● Switch the fan off immediately if it is damaged, es-
pecially if you notice damage or faults that endanger
persons or property. Prevent further use until the
unit has been completely repaired.
● In the event of a fire or chemical accident (smoke,
vapours) in your environment, switch off fan until
the outside air is harmless again.
● Only operate the fan when it is completely as-
sembled and correctly installed and adjusted.

5 Installation

WARNING
● Observe the requirements at the installation site,
environmental conditions and technical data of the
fan.
● The motor may still be very hot after the overload
protection has been triggered or the fan has been
switched off → Risk of burning due to hot motor.
Note the cooling time. This can be up to 15 minutes,
depending on the fan type. Usually, the fan switches
back on automatically after cooling down. For vari-
ous unit variants, start the fan with the On switch.
● Before working on the fan or removing covers, wait
until the fan has come to a standstill → risk of injury
when the fan is running.
● When working at heights, use suitable ladders/
climbing aids and ensure that they are stable. En-
sure that you are standing securely and cannot lose
your balance and that there is no one under the
unit. The applicable accident prevention regulations
