Dynamic range compression indicator
Functions used by the remote
control
The following functions can be operated only using the remote
control.
Setting the midnight mode
(dynamic range compression)
"Dynamic range compression" (DR COMP) is a function for com-
pressing the dynamic range (reproduction level range) of audio sig-
nals. Ît is used for viewing movie software late at night or at other
times when high volume levels are not desirable.
At preset scenes in movie software which has been recorded in the
Dolby Digital (AC-3) format, this function prevents sudden increases
in the sound level by holding down the peak level while maintaining
the spread of the sound field.
For your reference:
The midnight mode can only be used on the following conditions;
© When the reproduction mode is set to AC-3 ("AC-3" appears on the
display),
e When the source has been recorded in the Dolby Digital (AC-3)
format (the AC-3 indicator lights), and
The midnight mode can be effective only when the source is recorded
for the midnight mode.
Press DR COMP. FE]
The DR COMP indicator lights.
When the button is pressed again, the function is released, and the
indicator goes off.
Muting the sound temporarily
Press MUTING. G
During muting, the "MUTING ON NOW" message scrolls across the
display.
When the button is pressed again, the original volume level is re-
stored.

When the unit's power is switched off, the muting is released.
Selecting the display panel brightness
Press DIMMER.
The display panel is dimmed.
When the button is pressed again, or when the unit's power is
switched off, the original brightness level is restored.
