Symptom
Engine will not start or start is delayed,
although engine can be turned over.
At low temperatures engine will not start.
Engine fi res but stops as soon as starter
is switched off.
Engine stops by itself during normal
operation.
Low engine power, output and speed.

Troubleshooting (Engine)

Possible Problem
No fuel reaching injection pump?
Defective fuel pump?
Fuel fi lter clogged?
Faulty fuel supply line?
Compression too low?
Fuel pump not working correctly?
Oil pressure too low?
Low starting temperature limit exceeded?
Defective battery?
Air or water mixed in fuel system?
Emergency Stop Button Active (pushed in)?
Magnetic Pickup defective out of adjustment? Replace MPU or readjust
Engine Control Unit (ECU) defective?
Starter or Battery defective?
Engine oil too thick?
Defective battery?
Fuel fi lter blocked?
Fuel supply blocked?
Defective fuel pump?
Fuel tank empty?
Fuel fi lter blocked?
Defective fuel pump?
Mechanical oil pressure shutdown sensor
stops the engine due to low oil?
Fuel tank empty?
Fuel fi lter clogged?
Fuel tank venting is inadequate?
Leaks at pipe unions?
Speed control lever does not remain in
selected position?
Engine oil level too full?
Injection pump wear?
Solution
Add fuel. Check entire fuel system.
Replace fuel pump.
Replace fuel fi lter and clean tank.
Replace or repair fuel line.
Check piston, cylinder and valves. Adjust or
repair per engine repair manual.
Repair or replace fuel pump.
Check engine oil pressure.
Comply with cold starting instructions and
proper oil viscosity.
Charge or replace battery.
Inspect and clean fuel systyem.Check carefully
for loosened fuel line coupling, loose cap nut,
etc. Bleed fuel system.
Open Emergency Stop Button (pull outward)
Check or replace ECU
Check starter/battery. Replace if defective.
Refi ll engine crankcase with correct type of oil
for winter environment.
Replace battery.
Replace fuel fi lter.
Check the entire fuel system.
Replace fuel pump.
Add fuel.
Replace fuel fi lter.
Replace fuel pump.
Add oil. Replace low oil shutdown sensor if
necessary.
Add fuel.
Replace fuel fi lter.
Ensure tank is adequately vented.
Check threaded pipe unions. Tape and tighten
unions as required.
See engine manual for corrective action.
Correct engine oil level.
Use No. 2-D diesel fuel only. Check the fuel
injection pump element and delivery valve
assembly and replace as necessary.
