NOTICE
To ensure maximum battery performance:
• Batteries must be fully charged before us-
ing for the first time. This initial charge will
prolong the life of the batteries. Periodic
charging is also necessary during extend-
ed storage.
• Maintain proper electrolyte levels.
• Never overfill the batteries or allow the
electrolyte level to drop below the top of the
plates.
• Never overcharge the batteries.
Failure to observe these points will result in
shortened battery life.
Charging the batteries properly requires admin-
istering the right amount of current at the right
voltage. The 48 V Battery Charger regulates
these values and ensures adequate charge
during extended storage. Before charging the
batteries, read and understand the owner's
manual provided with the charger.
WARNING
Batteries generate explosive hydrogen gas.
Always follow these precautionary mea-
sures:
• Charge batteries in a well-ventilated area.
• Keep batteries away from sparks or open
flames (e.g., welding equipment, lit ciga-
rettes, etc.).
• Do not smoke when charging or handling
batteries.
KEEP BATTERIES AND ELECTROLYTE OUT
OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
Always wear protective clothing, gloves and
goggles when handling batteries and elec-
trolyte, and when charging your battery.
Charging Guidelines
• If feasible, connect the utility vehicle to the
same charger every night.
• Recharge batteries as soon after usage as
possible.
Charging Procedure
NOTICE
Water should only be added prior to
charging when the electrolyte level IS NOT
covering the battery plates.
ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS (YUM2E)
1. Check the water level of each battery cell to
ensure it covers the plates. Add water only if
necessary.
2. Tighten all vent caps before charging.
NOTICE
Damaged receptacle contacts can cause ex-
cessive resistance (heat) and lead to severe
damage.
3. Check the charge receptacle and battery
charger contacts for damage or corrosion.
Clean, repair or replace any damaged or cor-
roded parts.
4. Plug the battery charger connector into the
charge receptacle.
5. Check the state of charge before and after
the charging cycle to ensure adequate
charge.
Refer to "BATTERY CHARGER (YAMAHA
PROVIDED CHARGER)" on page 8-65.
6. Disconnect and stow the charger connector.
